Dry nipples can occur in both men and women

Dry nipples are a harmless breast problem. In fact, this condition can be experienced by both women and men. Although indeed, this problem occurs more frequently in women, especially breastfeeding mothers.

Usually, this condition is characterized by the appearance of itching and soreness in the nipple area. In fact, the skin around the nipples will appear cracked until peeling.

Although harmless, dry nipples can be a sign of serious illness, such as breast cancer or Paget's disease.

However, don't worry just yet, there are several things that can make the skin in the nipple area tend to be dry, such as wounds, fungal infections, eczema, and hormonal changes that usually occur in women.

An easy way to deal with dry nipples

In order for the skin to return to moisture and dryness, you can do some of these things to treat dry nipples.

1. Avoid or reduce triggers

Dry nipples can occur due to daily activities that you do, such as exercising, sexual activity, and getting scratched on your clothes. To deal with dry nipples due to these things, you can overcome them by reducing the activity that causes your nipples to dry out.

This can also be overcome by getting around the type of exercise, sexual intercourse style, or the clothing you use. This means that you can still do activities as usual, but avoid things that can make your nipples rub.

For example, using clothes with softer materials, doing sports activities using a special sports bra, or having sexual intercourse more carefully.

2. Compress with warm water

You can also apply warm compresses to the nipples if they are sore, dry, and the skin is peeling.

For those of you who experience this condition during breastfeeding, you can compress the nipples after giving breast milk to your little one. That way, the pain and dryness in your nipples will subside.

To do this, you can use a clean towel soaked in warm water. Then wring out the towel until no water is dripping. Place the warm towel on your nipples for a few minutes. If so, dry your nipples slowly.

3. Drop the milk that has just been issued

If you are breastfeeding, breast milk can also help treat dry nipples. The antibacterial protection of freshly released breast milk can help treat sore, dry, and peeling nipples.

You can catch the drips of milk in your hand, then apply it to the skin of the nipple that is injured or dry and peeled off. Let the milk dry first before using clothes again. However, make sure that your hands are clean when holding the breast milk in your hands.

4. Rinse with salt water

You can treat dry nipples using salt water. You can make this salt water solution yourself at home in an easy way.

First, mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt in 250 milliliters of water. Then soak your nipples in a small bowl filled with salt solution for one minute. You can also use a spray bottle that is used on all parts of your nipple. If so, dry it by tapping it slowly.
