Nowadays, more and more people are exercising regularly so that their health is maintained. You may be so excited, you may not realize that you have been exercising excessively. Not only increases the risk of injury, this too heavy and excessive exercise can cause your sex drive to decrease, you know! How can?
Exercise too hard can reduce sexual desire
Exercise is one of the healthiest and most effective ways to lose weight. The reason is, exercise forces the muscles of the body to contract to burn little calories.
I am so passionate about burning calories so that you lose weight quickly, sometimes you are willing to force yourself to keep exercising until you don't remember the time. Not only does it increase the risk of injury, exercising too hard can also make you less excited in bed, you know!
This surprising fact was successfully revealed by researchers from the University of North Carolina, United States. According to research published in the journal Medicine and Science in Sport and Exercise in 2007, exercise that is done is too heavy and is often proven to reduce male libido.
There are three things that were examined in this research, namely the type of exercise, the duration, and how often the exercise was done. The result, men who do low-intensity sports, such as cycling or walking, tend to have sex drive 7 times more normal or even higher, than men who do high-intensity sports.
Likewise when viewed from the duration of the exercise. The longer you exercise, coupled with sports that are too hard, your libido can decrease up to 4 times faster. This means that men who are too active in sports tend to have a lower libido than men who exercise moderately.
How come?
Actually, experts do not know clearly why too heavy exercise can reduce male libido. Anthony Hockey, lead author and lecturer in exercise physiology and nutrition at the University of North Carolina, suspects this is related to the decrease in the hormone testosterone that often occurs after exercise.
Exercise that is done intensely can trigger hypogonadism in men. Hypogonadism is a condition when the testes produce very little or no sex hormone, namely the hormone testosterone.
If you continue to do resistance training or exercise too hard, the testosterone hormone produced will decrease or even not be produced. As a result, you become less enthusiastic when you want to have sex with your partner.
Just like when you take a hot bath or sauna, exercising too hard also makes the body overheat. It should be noted that heat is the biggest enemy of sperm. The hotter your body temperature, the faster the sperm cells will die. So do not be surprised if afterward, you are lazy to have sex with your partner because you are no longer excited.
Exercising too hard can also make it difficult to have children
Not only in men, the dangers of excessive exercise also lurk a woman's sexual life. Yes, excessive exercise can also reduce sex hormones in women.
Hormonal imbalances in the body cause women's menstrual cycles to become irregular, aka messy. In fact, there are also women who do not menstruate at all because of frequent exercise.
If you and your partner are both diligent in exercising, but too much, you will both have a harder time having children. Not optimal sex drive, coupled with irregular menstrual cycles, makes conception even more difficult.
Therefore, when you both feel decreased sex drive, you should immediately consult a doctor. Your doctor may suggest a type of exercise that is safe for both of you.
Especially for those of you who want to have a baby soon, the doctor will also ask you both to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Starting from eating healthy foods, avoiding stress, and choosing the right type and duration of exercise. That way, the hope of having a baby soon will come true as soon as possible.
