Xigduo extended release tablet (XR) is an oral drug consisting of a combination of two drugs, namely dapagliflozin and metformin. Xigduo XR is a drug used to help control blood sugar in adult patients with type two diabetes. Its use in conjunction with a proper diet and exercise program will help control blood sugar to be more optimal. Xigduo XR is not given as a treatment for type one diabetes patients and those with diabetic ketoacidosis.
Dapagliflozin contained in Xigduo XR works by lowering the rate of glucose re-absorption by the kidneys. Glucose that is not reabsorbed into the bloodstream is excreted along with urine. Meanwhile, metformin which is also one of the ingredients in Xigduo XR works by reducing the amount of glucose produced by the liver and making your intestines absorb less glucose during the digestive process.

- Initial dose for patients who have not taken dapagliflozin: 5 mg, once daily
