After having sex, there are several things that must be done to maintain the cleanliness and health of the sex organs, especially if you had sex while pregnant. During pregnancy, protection that is carried out after sex cannot be underestimated to prevent various health risks that will affect the baby. For that, there are some mandatory things you need to do after sex for vaginal health and for your baby.
Various things that need to be done after sex when pregnant
1. Urinating
Don't take it for granted after sex. Women have to urinate after sex. By urinating, you are helping your body clean the bacteria that stick to the end of the urethra. This is because bacteria from the rectum can get close to the urethra and can cause infection.
Moreover, pregnant women are at high risk of developing urinary tract infections (UTIs) in the 6th to 24th week of pregnancy. Especially if you are diagnosed with this UTI and are still left untreated, the infection will spread to the kidneys. An infected kidney can cause early labor and low birth weight. For that, prevent infection by urinating after sex.
2. Clean the vagina
After urinating to remove the bacteria at the end of the urethra, to make it cleaner you have to clean the vagina. Lubricants, saliva, and bacteria and fungi that stick to and around the vagina during sex can develop into infections if not cleaned properly. Infections that occur during pregnancy and are not handled properly can harm the baby in the womb.
For this reason, always try to clean the vagina after sex during pregnancy. Use a mild, non-fragrant soap to help remove bacteria and dirt that sticks around the outer vagina.
Use warm water by washing it from front to back. Remember, you only need to clean the outside of the vagina. Cleaning the inside of the vagina can actually upset the natural balance of bacteria that protect the vagina and increase the risk of infection.
3. Change the underwear
In order to keep the vagina clean, there is one more thing you need to do apart from urinating and cleaning it. You will need to change your used underwear to avoid UTIs and other infections.
If you use damp underwear when you make love, it will stimulate fungi and bacteria to breed. For that, change your underwear every time you make love. Wear loose cotton underwear so that sweat is absorbed properly and allows air to circulate to keep the vagina dry.
4. Drink water
Drinking water after sex helps make you pee more. That way, more bacteria will leave the body before the infection spreads.
Dehydration can affect the health of the body, including the vagina. Sex during pregnancy requires more energy so that it can increase the production of sweat that is released. If the fluid intake that comes out is not replaced, it is not impossible that you will become dehydrated.
Dehydration during pregnancy can cause serious complications such as neural tube defects, reduced amniotic fluid, and preterm labor. For that, try to always drink water after having sex with a partner so that the fetus remains healthy and avoids various dangerous risks.
