Someone's attraction refers to positive feelings towards other people. This attraction which is also called interpersonal attraction can take many forms, including feelings of love, friendship, and admiration. A study of physical appearance and attraction shows that romantic attraction to someone is determined by physical attractiveness.

According to experts, physical attraction grows from these five points

Many ways have been devised by experts to increase a partner's attraction to physical appearance. One of them is psychologist Daniel Stalder with his five points.

The five are beauty, closeness, resemblance, feeling of liking, and non-sexual arousal. Stalder explains the reasons why these five things can lead to physical attraction between a person and his partner.

1. Interest in beauty or beauty

Being attracted to someone through their external beauty can create an attraction or chemistry . There is also the beauty of the soul or inner beauty , which refers to the nature and character.

But basically, there are many aspects of beauty that are widely agreed upon. These aspects can vary from culture to culture and from decade to decade.

Even so, basically, the bias to judge beauty clearly depends on the eye that sees it. The physical attractiveness of an individual to another individual is determined by each 'type' or can be called the sources of bias.

The sources of this bias can be influenced by many things including group stereotypes (race, religion, occupation, etc.), reminders of someone's previous partner, or TV shows and movies that are often watched.

However, basically the assessment of beauty is subjective, depending on how one's mind directs it to judge.

2. Attraction grows out of closeness

Stalder said that the psychological reason for being attracted to someone is because they are often close together so they are more familiar with each other. The more often two people see each other, the more likely they will have an attraction. This is called the exposure effect.

Claire Hart, a psychologist at the University of Southampton said, if you see someone every day they will likely get used to it from time to time.

This familiarity can get to the point of feeling comfortable in its existence and feeling strange if it isn't. This familiarity factor can also change his assessment of the person's physical appearance.

It's just that, closeness does not automatically generate interest because other factors are needed to support it. "If you have a bad first impression then there must be some improvement from that impression first," Hart explained.

3. Similarity in physical appearance

A person is also more interested in other people who have similar physical appearance, beliefs, and interests.

That, according to Stalder, comes from ego because if someone likes the same thing as you then you judge him to have good taste.

This doesn't mean that you and your partner are exactly alike. Of course every couple has a difference. However, differences are not a factor in the attraction between each other in the early days of the relationship approach.

4. Feelings of being liked first

A person tends to be attracted to other people if he knows that the other person was attracted to him first. This factor may feel a little complicated.

The process of physical attraction at this point starts with the ego. When he finds out that someone is attracted to him, he will feel flattered and think that the person who likes him has good taste.

5. Misperception of physical signs

Alan S. Cowen, professor of psychology at the University of California, classified emotions into 27 categories, three of which are feelings of being in love (romance) , anxious (anxiety) , and afraid (fear) .

When someone is in love, there are physical signs that appear such as an increased heart rate, nervousness, or tremors. These physical signs also appear when someone triggers a person's adrenaline, such as when they are afraid.

The physical symptoms of falling in love and fear tend to be the same, making someone misperceive these different feelings.

This is mentioned in a study entitled Misattribution of arousal or what is known as the love bridge experiment. Two psychology professors from the University of New York, Donald G. Dutton and Arthur P. Aron conducted experiments on two groups.

Researchers placed one group on an ordinary iron bridge and the other on a suspension bridge.

As a result, the man on the suspension bridge has a greater attraction for the woman with him on the bridge because the bridge is rocking.

The physical symptoms of shaking and increased heart rate because this fear is perceived as a feeling of falling in love by the group placed on the suspension bridge.
