Can minus eye be cured?
Vision is one of the abilities that will decrease with age. So naturally, over time you will experience visual disturbances in old age. However, vision problems can also occur due to various other risk factors such as genetic disorders and reading habits.
Nearsightedness or minus eye actually occurs when the eyeball is too long or the cornea is curved too steeply, so that the light that should fall right on the retina is in front of the retina of the eye.
So far, minus eyes have been treated by recommending the use of glasses or contact lenses. Glasses or contact lenses are just tools that help your eyes to see clearly again. However, it doesn't make the minus in your eyes any less.
How to reduce eye minus
If you have a large minus number in your eye, then you can treat the minus eye with medical means. Laser surgery is a medical procedure that can reduce eye minus.
This procedure uses a laser beam that is applied directly to the eye to repair any abnormal corneas. There are three types of laser surgery you can do, namely:
- Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), namely a laser beam that is intended to remove a thin layer on the surface of the cornea, in order to change its shape and refocus the light entering the eye.
- Ephithelial keratomileusis laser (LASEK), almost the same as the PRK procedure, but in this medical procedure uses alcohol to loosen the surface of the cornea, making it easier for the cornea to be shifted or repositioned.
- Laser in situ keratectomy (LASIK), this procedure is almost the same as LASEK, but LASIK changes the shape of the cornea so that it can capture light normally.
Of the three medical procedures, LASEK or LASIK is a method that is often used and is considered to be more effective in reducing eye minus.
