Use
What does Cafcit do?
Cafcit is a drug used for the short-term treatment of breathing problems (apnea) in premature babies (born between 28 and less than 33 weeks of gestation).
Cafcit may be prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
How do you use Cafcit?
Do not use this medication for more than 12 days without advice from your pediatrician. Do not change (increase or decrease) your baby's dose without talking to your pediatrician. After using the cafcit, if your baby is still having trouble breathing (apnea), contact your pediatrician right away.
To use an oral liquid cafcit:
Cafcit is usually given once a day by mouth or by a baby's pacifier bottle. Measure the oral liquid cafcit dosage with a special measuring spoon or cup, not a regular tablespoon. If you do not have a dose measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
To use cafcit injection:
Cafcit injection is given by your doctor.
Ask your doctor any questions you have about how to take this drug. Do not give this medication for more than 12 days without advice from your pediatrician.
How to save Cafcit?
Cafcit is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.

What should I pay attention to before using Cafcit?
Consult your doctor or pharmacist if:

Drug Interactions
What medicines should not be taken at the same time as Cafcit?
Cafcit may react with other drugs that you are currently taking, which could change how your medication works or increase your risk of serious side effects. To avoid any drug reactions, you should keep a list of all the drugs you take (including prescription and non-prescription drugs and herbal products) and tell your doctor and pharmacist. For your safety, do not start, stop, or change the dose of any medication without your doctor's approval.
The following are some of the interactions that can occur when taking Cafcit with other drugs:
- Fluconazole, Ketoconazole: results in increased levels of caffeine
- Phenytoin, Fosphenytoin, Phenobarbital: results in decreased caffeine levels
- Dopamine, Dobutamine: can cause an increase in heart rate
- Adenosine - Caffeine decreases the efficacy of adenosine by inhibiting adenosine absorption, therefore high doses of adenosine can be recommended for cardioversion.
- Antibiotics (quinolone antibiotics): some antibiotics can rapidly decrease the body's cafeteria. Taking antibiotics along with Cafcit might increase your risk of side effects including nervousness, headache, increased heart rate, and other side effects.
- Cimetidine (Tagamet): Cimetidine (Tagamet) can rapidly decrease the body's caffeine. Taking cimetidine (Tagamet) along with cafcit might increase your risk of caffeine side effects including nervousness, headache, increased heart rate, and other side effects.
- Lithium: cafcit can increase the speed at which the body gets rid of lithium from the body. If you are consuming caffeine-containing products and you are also consuming lithium, stop consuming caffeine products slowly. Quitting too quickly can also increase the side effects of lithium.
- Birth control pills: birth control pills can decrease how quickly the body gets rid of cafes. Taking cafcit along with birth control pills can cause nervousness, headache, fast heartbeat, and other side effects.
Are there foods and drinks that should not be consumed when using Cafcit?
Cafcit may interact with food or alcohol by changing how medications work or increasing the risk of serious side effects. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about food or alcohol that could potentially cause drug interactions.
Alcohol can decrease the body's reaction to managing cafes. Consuming a cafeteria with alcohol can cause too much caffeine in the bloodstream and cafe side effects include nervousness, headaches, and a fast heartbeat.

Cannot be used on adults.
What is the dosage of Cafcit for children?
Dosage: 20mg / kg / intravenous injection dose every 30 minutes or by oral route.
Maintenance dose: 5mg / kg / dose daily, intravenous injection or oral route - started 24 hours after initial dose.
In what forms is Cafcit available?
Cafcit is available in the following dosages and strengths:
- Cafcit injection: Caffeine citrate 20 mg / mL.
- Oral fluid caffeine: Caffeine citrate 20 mg / mL.
What should I do in an emergency or overdose?
In case of an emergency or overdose, contact the local emergency services provider (119) or immediately to the nearest hospital emergency department.
It is very important to carry a written list of all the prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking in an emergency.
What should I do if I forget to take / take medicine?
If you miss a dose of Cafcit, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
