Dirithromycin is an antibitotic drug used to treat various types of bacterial infections, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsils (tonsillitis), and skin infections. Dirithromycin is a macrolide class of antibiotics. This drug works by blocking the bacteria in your body.
Dirithromycin can also be used for purposes other than those listed in the medication guide.
How is dirithromycin used?

Other drugs in the same class as dirithromycin cause dangerous side effects when taken with terbenadine (Seldane). Although dirithromycin does not cause the same reaction, it should be used with caution if it is taken at the same time as terbenadine (Seldane).
Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following drugs:
- Seizure medications such as carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenytoin (Dilantin), and valproic acid (Depakote, Depakene) may not have an effect. Because this medicine is so important, your doctor may want to order some blood tests or special monitoring.
