What Drug Epinastine?
What is epinastine for?
This medication is an antihistamine which is generally used to prevent itching of the eyes caused by allergies such as allergic conjunctivitis.
How is epinastine used?
Use the medicine in both eyes, usually twice a day; or as recommended by your doctor. Use only when you can be exposed to allergens (eg pollen) which can cause allergic conjunctivitis, keep using this medication even if your eyes are not irritated or itchy.
If you wear contact lenses, remove them before dropping this medicine. Wait at least 10 minutes after administering the drug before wearing your contact lenses again.
To apply eye drops, wash your hands first. To avoid contamination, do not let the tip of the dropper or touch or get into your eye.
Tilt your head down, turn your eyes up and pull your lids down to form a pocket. Hover the dropper just above your eye and apply the prescribed dose of drops. Look down and slowly close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes. Place one finger on the inner corner of the eye and apply gentle pressure to prevent the medicine from escaping. Try not to blink and don't rub your eyes.
Do not rinse the dropper. Change the cap after use.
If you are using any other type of eye medicine (such as drops or ointment), wait at least 10 minutes before giving any other medicine. Use eye drops before eye ointment to allow the eye ointment to soak into the eye.
How is epinastine stored?
This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.

What is the epinastine dosage for adults?
Adult Dose for Allergic Conjunctivitis:
Give 1 drop to the affected eye 2 times a day.
What is the dose of epinastine for children?
Children's Dose for Allergic Conjunctivitis:
1 year and up: 1 drop in the affected eye once a day.

Solution contains 0.5 mg / mL epinastine HCl.
Epinastine side effects
What side effects can be experienced due to epinastine?
Generally, side effects that arise are a burning sensation in the eyes, red eyes, and headaches.
Stop using this medicine if you experience signs of an allergic reaction such as hives. hard to breath; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using this drug and seek medical help if you experience any of the following:
- swelling, redness, discomfort, hardening of the skin or dry skin around your eyelids)
- severe burning, stinging, or other irritation after using the eye drops.
Less serious side effects:
- burning but not severe, itching, or irritating to the eye
- watery eyes
- headache
- cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat

Epinastine Drug Warnings and Cautions
What should be known before using epinastine?
Before starting treatment, you should contact your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to epinastine or any other type of medication.
Tell your doctor and pharmacist about any prescription or nonprescription drugs you are taking along with any vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or want to take. Your doctor will need to monitor if any side effects arise.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, are in the process of becoming pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed while using this medicine. If you become pregnant while taking the medicine, contact your doctor.
Tell your doctor if you wear contact lenses. You should not wear contact lenses if your eyes are reddening or irritated, and you should not use this medicine to treat irritation that may be caused by contact lenses. Remove your contact lenses before you give this medicine and do not wear your contact lenses for at least 10 minutes after administering the medicine. It would be better if you use this medicine before you use contact lenses in the morning and after you remove them at night.
Is epinastine safe for pregnant and lactating women?
There are no adequate studies regarding the risks of using this drug in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Always consult your doctor to weigh the potential benefits and risks before using this medication. This drug is included in the risk of pregnancy category C according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Tell your doctor and pharmacist about any prescription or nonprescription drugs you are taking along with any vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or want to take. Do not start treatment with a new medication without telling your doctor first.
Can food or alcohol interact with epinastine?
Certain drugs should not be used with meals or when eating certain foods because drug interactions can occur. Consuming alcohol or tobacco with certain drugs can also cause interactions to occur. Discuss your use of drugs with food, alcohol, or tobacco with your health care provider.
What health conditions can interact with epinastine?
You should not use this medicine if your eye is infected with bacteria, viruses, or fungi, unless you are also taking anti-infective drugs.
Epinastine overdose
What should I do in an emergency or overdose?
In case of an emergency or overdose, contact the local emergency services provider (112) or immediately to the nearest hospital emergency department.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you forget a dose of this medicine, use it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
