What is the drug Flavoxate used for?

Flavoxate is a medication to relieve symptoms caused by certain bladder disorders and urinary tract infections. Infections can also include prostate infections. Flavoxate belongs to a class of drugs called smooth muscle relaxants. This drug works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder. Flavoxate helps reduce leaking of urine, the feeling to urinate immediately, frequent trips to the toilet, and pain in the bladder. This medicine does not treat infections. Your doctor may use this drug in combination with other drugs for your treatment.

How do you use the drug Flavoxate?

Follow the medication instructions given by your doctor or pharmacist before you start using this medicine. If you have questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication, usually 3-4 times a day or as directed by your doctor. Consume it with food in case of heartburn.

Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Your doctor may lower your dose after your symptoms have improved. The length of treatment depends on the cause of the problem.

Do not increase your dose or use this medication more frequently without your doctor's approval. Your condition will not recover any sooner, and the risk of side effects can be increased.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or gets worse.

How to store Flavoxate?

What should be considered before using the drug Flavoxate?

Before using Flavoxate,

• Tell your doctor and pharmacist about prescription and nonprescription drugs, including vitamins.
• Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had glaucoma, ulcers, paralytic ileus, or obstructive disease (blockage) of the stomach, kidneys, or intestines.
• Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Flavoxate or any other medications.
• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while using Flavoxate, contact your doctor.
• If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about using Flavoxate.
• You should know that this drug may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this drug affects you.
• Note that alcohol can increase the drowsiness caused by this drug.

Is the drug Flavoxate safe for pregnant and lactating women?

There are no adequate studies regarding the risks of using this drug in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Always consult your doctor to weigh the potential benefits and risks before using this medication. This drug is included in the risk of pregnancy category B according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Side effects

What are the possible side effects of Flavoxate?

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: nausea, vomiting, sweating, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or feel like you might pass out.

Call your doctor if you have any of the following serious side effects:

• Dry skin, heat and extreme thirst
• Confusion
• Pounding heartbeat, palpitations in the chest
• Urinating less than usual or not at all

Less serious side effects may include:

• Dry mouth
• Blurred vision
• Nauseous vomit
• Drowsiness, restlessness
• Spinning sensation
• Headache
• Fever

Drug Interactions

What drugs can interfere with the drug Flavoxate?

• Bupropion
• Morphine
• Morphine Sulfate Liposome
• Oxymorphone
• Umeclidinium

Can certain foods and drinks interfere with the work of the drug Flavoxate?

Certain drugs should not be used with meals or when eating certain foods because drug interactions can occur. Consuming alcohol or tobacco with certain drugs can also cause interactions to occur. Discuss your use of drugs with food, alcohol, or tobacco with your health care provider.

What health conditions can interfere with the performance of the drug Flavoxate?

The presence of other health problems in your body may affect the use of this drug. Tell your doctor if you have other health problems, such as:

• Bleeding (severe)
• Glaucoma
• Bowel obstruction or bowel problems or other stomach problems
• Urinary tract obstruction - Using Flavoxate can make the condition worse
• Enlarged prostate - Using Flavoxate can cause difficulty urinating

What is the dosage of Flavoxate for adults?

Usual Adult Dose for Urinary Incontinence

100-200 mg orally 3-4 times a day. When symptoms subside, the dose may be reduced.

Usual Adult Dose for Frequency of Urination

100-200 mg orally 3-4 times a day. When symptoms subside, the dose may be reduced.

Usual Adult Dose for Dysuria

100-200 mg orally 3-4 times a day. When symptoms subside, the dose may be reduced.

Usual Children's Dose for Urinary Incontinence

Over 12 years of age: 100-200 mg orally 3-4 times a day. When symptoms subside, the dose may be reduced.

What is the dosage of the drug Flavoxate for children?

What to do in an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or overdose, contact the local emergency services provider (119) or immediately to the nearest hospital emergency department.

What should I do if I forget to take medicine or forget to take medicine?

If you forget a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
