What Drug Listerine?
What for
Listerine is an antiseptic mouthwash that is used to treat bad breath caused by microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi.
Listerine mouthwash contains various active substances such as eucalyptol, menthol, methyl salicylate and thymol so that it can help prevent and reduce plaque and gingivitis (gingivitis).
- Eucalyptol 0.92mg in 1mL acts as an anti-inflammatory which can reduce pain in the gums.
- Menthol 0.42mg in 1mL acts as an anesthetic and treats minor mouth irritations
- Methyl salicylate 0.6mg in 1 mL functions as an analgesic and antiseptic
- Thymol 0.64mg in 1mL functions as an antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal
The four ingredients above function synergistically to prevent and reduce the growth of plaque and gingivitis to prevent bad breath caused by microorganisms.
Apart from these four active ingredients, Listerine mouthwash also contains alcohol (26.9%), benzoic acid, poloxamer 407, and sodium benzoate.
How are the rules of use
Before using Listerine, brush your teeth first. If the toothpaste you are using contains fluoride, wait a few moments before using Listerine. This is because mouthwash can get rid of the remaining fluoride in your mouth.

Put the whole mouthwash in your mouth, then rinse it vigorously for 30 seconds. Make sure this mouthwash is not ingested or swallowed.
When you're done rinsing, throw the Listerine down the sink.
Some people use mouthwash as part of their daily tooth brushing routine. However, you can also use Listerine from time to time to get rid of bad breath.
The thing to remember is that Listerine is not a substitute for a toothbrush and flossing . So, make sure you always brush and clean your teeth first before using Listerine.
This mouthwash should be used 2 times a day, depending on your needs.
