What Drug Natamycin?

What is natamycin for?

Natamycin is a drug used to treat fungal infections of the eye. This drug works to stop the growth of several types of fungus.

This drug only treats fungal infections of the eye. Cannot work on other types of eye infections. Inconsequential or misuse of other drugs used to treat the infection can reduce its effectiveness.

How to use natamycin?

Wash your hands every time you apply the eye drops. To prevent contamination, do not touch the tip of the dropper or let it touch your eye or other surface.

Do not use contact lenses while using this medicine. Sterilize your contact lenses according to the directions on the contact lens label and check with your doctor before you start using them again.

Shake the bottle well before using it. Raise your head, look up, and pull up the lower lids of your eyes. Hold the dropper and point it to your eye and drop it in your eye. Then look down, slowly close your eyes, place one finger on the tip of your eye close to your nose. Press gently for 1 or 2 minutes before opening your eyes. This will prevent the medication from flowing out of the eye. Don't blink or rub your eyes. If instructed to use this medication in both eyes, repeat steps in the other eye. Don't wash the dropper. Replace the new pipette after using the pipette.

If you are using any other eye medication (such as eye drops or ointment), wait at least 5 minutes before applying any other medication. Use the eye drops before the ointment to allow the eye drops to absorb.

Wait a few minutes for your vision to clear again before driving or operating machinery.

Take this drug until it runs out according to the consumption period prescribed by your doctor. Stopping the dose too early risks the infection returning due to the development of the fungus in the body.

This drug is usually used for 2 - 3 weeks until the infection clears. Call your doctor if the infection persists or gets worse.

How is natamycin stored?

This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.

What is the natamycin dosage for adults?

Dosage for Intestinal Candidiasis in adults

Oral

Adults: 100 mg 4 times a day

Dosage for Oral Candidiasis in adults

Oral

Adults: 10 mg loz every 4-6 hours

Dosage for blepharitis, conjunctivitis and keratitis in adults

Eye ointment

Adults: 5% suspension of eye ointment: put 1 drop in the conjunctival sac every 1-2 hours; reduce to 1 drop 6-8 times a day after 3-4 days. Duration of treatment: 2-3 weeks.

Vaginal Tablets
Dosage for Trichomoniasis in adults
Adults: One 25 mg tablet inserted into the vagina daily for 20 days.

Vaginal Tablets
Dosage for vulvovaginal candidiasis in adults
Adult: One 100 mg tablet inserted into the vagina every day for 3 - 6 days.

Topical / Cutaneous Ointment
Dosage for fungal skin infections in adults
Adults: Apply 2% cream to problem areas, once or several times a day.

Topical / Cutaneous Ointment
Nail fungus infection
Adults: Apply 2% cream to problem areas, once or several times a day.

1% cream: Apply 3 times.

What side effects can be experienced due to natamycin?

No serious side effects are expected from this drug.

Generally, mild irritation (redness, stinging, or burning sensation) can occur.

If you forget a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
