Use
What is Retapamulin for?
Retapamulin is a drug used to treat certain skin infections (impetigo). Retapamulin ointment is antibacterial and works by killing certain bacteria that cause impetigo.
How do you use Retapamulin?
Use retapamulin ointment as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the package for dosage instructions.
- Apply a thin layer of medication to the area according to the doctor's instructions.
- You can cover the area with a sterile bandage or gauze. It may be useful for children and babies to protect the area and prevent the medicine from getting in contact with other areas (such as the eyes, nose, mouth).
- Wash your hands immediately after using retapamulin ointment unless the area is being treated.
- To get rid of the infection, use retapamulin ointment thoroughly during treatment. Keep using the medication even if you feel better within a few days.
- If you miss a dose of retapamulin ointment, use it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
How to store Retapamulin?
This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.

Side effects
What side effects may occur due to Retapamulin?
Seek immediate medical help if you experience any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using retapamulin and contact your doctor immediately if you experience pain, itching, redness, swelling, blisters, discharge or other skin irritation where the medicine is being used.
Less serious side effects can include:
- Mild skin irritation
- Nausea, diarrhea
- Headache
- Nasal congestion, sore throat.
Not everyone experiences the following side effects. There may be some side effects not listed above. If you have concerns about certain side effects, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Overdose
What should I do in an emergency or overdose?
In case of an emergency or overdose, contact the local emergency services provider (118/119) or immediately to the nearest hospital emergency department.

If you forget a dose of this medicine, use it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
