Several reasons why headaches when fasting
Not eating and drinking during fasting can make you feel weak, and even lightheaded. This certainly makes your fasting disturbed and uncomfortable to do various activities while fasting. There are several things that may be the cause of dizziness during fasting, namely:
1. Dehydration or heat
Fasting certainly makes you feel thirsty, but you have to hold it until it's time to break the fast. If you feel very thirsty and your body doesn't have much water, then you run the risk of experiencing dehydration or dehydration. Especially if the weather is hot, you do a lot of activity and sweat a lot.
Dehydration prevents your body from functioning properly. Some of the symptoms of dehydration are dizziness, weakness, infrequent urination, and darker colored urine. To prevent dehydration, it is recommended that you drink at least 8 glasses or more per day.
2. Low blood sugar
In addition to holding back thirst, you are also obliged to endure hunger during fasting. So, your body may lack glucose for energy, if you don't eat enough food at breaking fast and dawn.
Glucose is the main energy used by the body to carry out all its normal functions. Lack of glucose in the body can make the brain lack the energy to perform its functions. As a result, you feel weak and dizzy.
For this reason, you are advised to eat foods that can maintain energy longer, such as foods that contain high fiber, when breaking the fast and at dawn. For example, food sources of complex carbohydrates (brown rice and whole wheat bread, vegetables, and fruits).
Avoid eating simple carbohydrate sources, such as sweet cakes, sugary drinks, biscuits, and others. Simple carbohydrates can make your blood sugar rise quickly, but also fall faster, which can lead to dizziness.
3. Low blood pressure
You can feel dizzy if your heart doesn't pump enough blood to the brain. One of the causes of this is low blood pressure. A sudden drop in blood pressure can make the heart unable to deliver enough blood to the brain. This can happen when you get up from sitting very quickly.
4. Fatigue
You may find it easier to feel tired during fasting, especially when you don't drink enough and eat less food during fasting and sahur. Fatigue can be caused by doing too much activity while fasting or it may also be because you are not getting enough sleep. Lack of sleep is very likely to occur when you are fasting because your sleep schedule changes. This can then make you feel dizzy.
