Cigarettes kill you slowly by causing damage to various organs in the body without realizing it. Worse yet, most of the damage that had already occurred could not be repaired as before. In fact, not infrequently the organ damage caused by smoking can be fatal. What are the parts of the body that are most quickly damaged by smoking in the long term?
Various damages that occur to the body due to smoking
1. Mouth and throat
Cigarette poisoning can cause serious damage to the mouth and throat tissues. Bad breath, yellowing of teeth, blackened gums, and a tongue that becomes insensitive to taste are some of the most common effects on the mouth due to smoking.
In the long term, smoking can put you at a higher risk of developing various oral cancers, including oral cancer, tongue cancer, esophageal cancer, and throat cancer. More than 93% of cases of throat cancer are caused by smoking.
2. Lungs
Cigarettes are the enemy of your lungs. The lungs, which should be getting clean air, are instead polluted by cigarette smoke so that its function is disturbed.
Initially, smoking will cause you to quickly become short of breath and a persistent dry cough that eventually expels phlegm. In the long term, your lungs have a high potential for developing COPD such as pneumonia, bronchitis, or emphysema due to smoking.
3. Skin
Smoking causes premature aging of the skin. Active smokers generally look even older than other people of the same age because they have a less fresh complexion and are much more dull gray. Active smokers also experience sagging and wrinkled skin more quickly, especially around the eyes and lips.
This is because the skin doesn't get enough oxygen from smoking. You don't want to look like you are 50 years old, even though you are still the age of two, right?
4. The brain
The chemicals weaken the blood vessels in the brain and cause swelling (brain aneurysms), increasing your risk of stroke by 50 percent. This condition is very serious because the swollen brain blood vessels can burst at any time.
5. Heart
Various toxins in cigarette smoke such as nicotine and carbon monoxide will also flow in the blood and return to the heart.
Smoking triggers blood clots and damages the heart's blood vessels (coronary arteries). This damage will cause a gradual decrease in heart function to pump blood properly. In the end, problems with heart function will make you have a great potential for various heart diseases.
6. Bones and joints
Bones are the strongest organs in the body, but over time they can become weakened and damaged by smoking. Cigarette poison causes inflammation of the bones and joints. This damage makes smoking very susceptible to osteoporosis and rheumatism, even from a young age.
