The risk of ovarian cysts can increase due to these 6 factors

You need to know that every woman is at risk for having ovarian cysts during her life. Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that result from a buildup of fluid during ovulation (when a woman's ovaries (ovaries) release an egg).

You may even have ovarian cysts during menstruation, but you may not realize it because often ovarian cysts go away on their own.

Ovarian cancer risk factors

Some of the factors that can increase your risk of ovarian cysts are:

1. Age

According to the U.S National Library of Medicine (NLM), women between the ages of puberty and menopause are at the highest risk of developing ovarian cysts, because at this time women still experience menstrual periods. When a woman is menstruating, ovarian cysts may form. This is not a problem as long as ovarian cysts go away on their own, do not enlarge, and cause no symptoms.

Ovarian cysts are rare in women after menopause. However, women who are menopausal and have ovarian cysts have a higher risk of developing ovarian cancer.

There are several types of ovarian cysts that can form before menopausal women. However, the most common type is functional cyst. This type of functional cyst is divided into two, namely cysts that grow on follicles (where an immature egg develops) or so-called. follicular cysts and corpus luteum cysts or cysts that form in the corpus luteum, after the egg is released.

2.Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

Women who have polycystic ovary syndrome have a higher risk of ovarian cysts. Polycystic ovary syndrome occurs when the body doesn't produce enough hormone for the follicles in the ovaries to release eggs. As a result, follicular cysts form. Polycystic ovary syndrome can also interfere with hormone production in women, so many problems can occur because of this.

3. Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs when part of the tissue lining the uterus (endometrium) forms on the outside of the uterus, such as the fallopian tubes, ovaries, bladder, colon, vagina, or rectum. Sometimes, blood-filled sacs (cysts) form on this tissue. Cysts that are formed due to endometriosis are called endometriomas. These cysts can cause you to feel pain during sexual intercourse and during menstrual periods.

4. Womb fertility drugs

Womb fertility drugs are usually used to help you ovulate (release an egg). Such as gonadotropins, clomiphene citrate, or letrozole. This of course can affect the balance of hormones in your body. Thus, the use of uterine fertility drugs can also increase the risk of ovarian cysts, often in the type of functional cysts.

Use of this medication can cause large numbers of cysts to form on the ovaries. This condition is known as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome).

5. Chemotherapy with tamoxifen

Women with breast cancer who have had chemotherapy with tamoxifen have a higher risk of ovarian cysts. Tamoxifen can cause functional ovarian cysts to form. However, these cysts may disappear after treatment is complete.

6. History of ovarian cysts

Women who have a family history of ovarian cysts or women who have previously had ovarian cysts have a higher risk of developing ovarian cysts.
