Every woman will definitely experience menopause, which is the cessation of the menstrual cycle. Generally, this condition occurs when a woman reaches a certain age, between 45-55 years. However, recent research has shown that carbohydrate-containing foods may cause menopause to appear earlier.

Why can premature menopause occur?

Menopause is something that every woman experiences. However, not with early menopause. Early menopause occurs in a woman before she reaches 40 years of age. As a result, this condition can bring many complications.

Loss of bone density, a higher risk of heart disease, and loss of sexual desire are just some of the consequences of early menopause.

In fact, women who enter menopause normally have several health benefits. For example, a recent study suggested that women who went through menopause at an older age were able to avoid cognitive decline in older women.

Carbohydrates are thought to be the cause of menopause earlier

In a study of 35,000 British women aged 40-65 years, researchers found that there was a link between carbohydrate consumption and the causes of menopause that came earlier.

The results of the study, which was conducted for 4 years, stated that those who ate foods containing refined carbohydrates experienced menopause at a faster rate. This may have to do with the way certain foods affect hormones.

Refined carbohydrates are one of the causes of insulin resistance. This high insulin can then interfere with sex hormone activity and increase estrogen levels.

When sex hormones are disrupted and estrogen levels increase, the number of menstrual cycles also increases and depletes the supply of ovum cells. That is why researchers suspect that carbohydrates play a role in causing menopause to come earlier.

The extent to which carbohydrates are the cause of menopause comes faster

Judging from the results of these studies, as many as 900 women out of 14,000 who were tracked showed menopause that occurred naturally. On average, menopause begins at age 51.

However, the study also showed that for each additional daily intake of a standard serving of refined carbohydrates, menopause began earlier, about 1.5 years earlier.

This is what led researchers to conclude that there is a link between foods containing refined carbohydrates and the causes of menopause to come earlier.

Apart from carbohydrates, these foods also cause early menopause

Not only refined carbohydrates, the researchers also found that vegetarian women experienced menopause about a year earlier than those who ate meat.

The findings indicate that the high fat content of fiber in a vegetarian diet is associated with lower estrogen levels, which causes menopause to come earlier.

Even so, those who ate meat but ate high amounts of savory food every day were also known to experience menopause 2 years earlier than those who did not. Some foods that contribute to include potato chips, pretzels, and nuts.

Eat the following foods if you don't want menopause to come sooner

Refined carbohydrates are thought to be one of the causes of menopause to come earlier. So, are there foods that can prevent this condition from occurring?

Still from the same study, researchers found that menopause tended to start later among those who ate a lot of fish and legumes.

Each additional daily serving of fish oil and nuts can delay menopause by about three years. Higher daily intakes of vitamin B6 and zinc have also been associated with the onset of menopause later in life.

Although food affects the menopause you experience, this does not mean that this is the only reason whether your menopause will come sooner or not. There are also other factors, namely genetics, that can cause you to develop this condition.
