Chicken eggs are a relatively inexpensive and affordable source of animal protein. Processed into various kinds of food menus, it always tastes good and can meet the nutritional needs of people from various circles. However, are you curious about the difference between omega 3 chicken eggs and regular eggs?

What makes omega 3 eggs more special than regular eggs?

Omega 3 is one of the nutrients that we really need. Omega 3 is a type of essential fatty acid that is good for maintaining a healthy heart and blood vessels. Omega 3 can also help strengthen the immune system and balance the levels of fatty triglycerides in the blood.

Even so, the body cannot produce itself in sufficient quantities so it must be assisted through food intake.

There are three forms of omega 3 fatty acids, namely ALA, DHA and EPA. Alpha-linoleic Acid (ALA) is found mostly in vegetable sources, such as plant oils and seeds. While DHA) and EPA are found in animal sources, such as salmon, tuna and egg yolks.

Naturally, egg yolks already contain AHA and DHA. However, the levels are not so high that they cannot be categorized as a high source of omega 3 foods such as salmon. Therefore, chicken egg producers get around this with food engineering technology.

In Indonesia, the discovery of food engineering technology to enrich chicken eggs with omega 3 was first carried out by the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) in 1995 and has been patented since 2009.

Apart from engineering technology, the chickens were previously fed enriched with omega 3 supplements. Thus, the chickens can produce eggs with high omega 3 fatty acid content.

The difference between omega 3 eggs and regular chicken eggs

Apart from of course being enriched with the addition of omega 3, this egg also has another difference from ordinary chicken eggs.

Physical appearance

Ordinary chicken egg yolk has a light yellow color. While this egg yolk is larger and has a darker color, even closer to orange.

The yolk is also sturdier and doesn't crumble easily when separated from the white.

Cholesterol content

This special chicken egg contains ten times more omega 3 fatty acids than ordinary eggs.

Amazingly, the cholesterol content is also 50% lower than ordinary chicken eggs. Per 100 grams of omega 3 chicken eggs, cholesterol is only about 150 mg, while regular eggs can reach 250-300 mg. For the record, the limit for cholesterol intake in adults is a maximum of 300 mg per day.

This advantage makes omega 3 chicken eggs suitable as a choice of protein sources for people who have high cholesterol or heart disease.

Price

Seeing the content of omega 3 eggs which are superior to ordinary eggs, it is not surprising that the price is also more expensive. The price of these eggs can be three times more expensive than ordinary chicken eggs on the market.
