Not without reason, your little one is fussy and crying. When a baby cries, it is a sign that something is making him uncomfortable. So, as soon as possible you have to calm him down.
Unfortunately, not a few parents are even confused about their babies who suddenly cry and are fussy. Then, what should the parent do to calm the baby?
3 things parents should do when a baby cries
1. Make a soothing sound
In the womb, babies are accustomed to hearing the mother's heartbeat, which is a constant sound. The mother's heartbeat will sound in the same rhythm and this will calm the baby down.
So, if at any time your little one cries, you can make or play a soothing sound. For example, holding the baby to the chest, listening to the sound of raindrops, listening to the mother's soft voice as a lullaby.
Apart from that, you can also try creating “white noise” sounds to soothe the baby. "White nose" is a sound combination of various frequencies. Examples of white noise are fans, hairdryers, vacuum cleaners and white noise machines
2. Shake the baby
Most babies like to be rocked gently. When the baby's body is rocked slowly, a cooler wind occurs. This condition makes the baby calmer. You can rock the baby's body while the baby cries while:
- When traveling
- On the rocking chair
- The baby is put in a special swing
- Take a walk in the bassinet
3. Try massaging or rubbing the abdomen
Gentle massage can make the baby calmer. You can use a special massage oil for babies. The oil used should be fragrance-free and very light on the baby's skin.
But remember, you also have to be careful when massaging your little one, any mistakes can be bad for him.
Sometimes, a crying baby also indicates that he is hungry or feels uncomfortable because the diaper needs to be changed. So, apart from doing these three things, make sure you know what your little one's crying means.
If your little one is hungry, immediately give him breast milk. That way, your baby will usually stop crying after you feed him.
