What is fusidic acid for?

Fusidic acid or fusidic acid is a medicine to treat skin infections due to bacteria staphylococcus . The mechanism of action of this drug is to stop the growth of infection-causing bacteria. Sodium fusidate is a fusidic acid derivative usually found in ointments.

Fusidic acid cream and sodium fusidate ointment are antibiotic drugs that usually get rid of skin infections quickly, especially those that cover only a small area.

If the infection spreads, antibiotic tablets or liquid medicine may be needed. If the infected skin area is inflamed, your doctor may prescribe a cream that combines fusidic acid with an NSAID drug, for example hydrocortisone or betamethasone.
