The plan for the COVID-19 vaccination in Indonesia is getting closer. The government has determined that the implementation of COVID-19 immunization will be carried out in two ways, namely participants in government programs and independent participants.

Which artificial vaccines are used? How effective is it? How is the registration flow? Check out the following reviews.

How is the COVID-19 vaccination process in Indonesia

The Indonesian government has determined that only 6 COVID-19 vaccines will be used in the vaccination program for the Indonesian people.

The six vaccines are the COVID-19 vaccine made by PT Bio Farma (Persero), AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer and BioNTech, China National Pharmaceutical Group Corporation (Sinopharm), and Sinovac Biotech Ltd.

The six vaccines are said to be the most promising candidates for the COVID-19 vaccine. Two of them, Moderna and Pfizer, have produced preliminary results of final stage clinical trials that have shown effectiveness of more than 90 percent.

Meanwhile, the Sinovac vaccine produced by a biopharmaceutical company from China is still undergoing phase 3 clinical trials. There are no test results that can prove the effectiveness of this vaccine. However, based on clinical trials in phase 1 and 2, this vaccine is able to trigger antibody production within 14 days. Even so, the antibodies produced are still lower than the natural antibodies that are formed in the bodies of patients who have recovered from COVID-19.

It is predicted that the results of the phase 3 clinical trial of this vaccine will only be known in May 2021. However, the Indonesian government has the courage to buy 3 million doses of Sinovac vaccine. As many as 1.2 million doses of the vaccine arrived at Soekarno Hatta Airport on Sunday (6/12), the rest will be sent in January 2021.

When can people get vaccinated against COVID-19?

Although the Sinovac vaccine made in China has arrived in Indonesia, the vaccine cannot yet be distributed because it has not received a distribution permit from BPOM.

Vaccination for COVID-19 in Indonesia will start after BPOM has issued an emergency use permit or emergency use authorization (EUA) and the halal fatwa from the MUI. The head of BPOM estimates that the permit will be issued in the third or fourth week of January 2021. Meanwhile, the official distribution permit, which is not EUA, can only be issued after the results of the phase 3 clinical trial are completed and officially published.

How to get a vaccine

The plan for the COVID-19 vaccination program in Indonesia will be carried out in two ways, namely the government program pathway and independent participants. Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto issued a Decree of the Minister of Health (Kepmenkes) Number HK.01.07 / Menkes / 9860/2020 concerning the Determination of Vaccines for the Implementation of the 2019 Corona Virus Disesase Vaccination (COVID-19).

The target is that the government will vaccinate 67% of the 160 million population aged 18-59 years, or around 107,206,544 people. About 30% will be included in government programs, while the remaining 70% is targeted to participate in independent vaccines.

The government program is a free COVID-19 vaccination. This is specifically for those who fall into the category of priority groups, health workers, legal officials, religious leaders, and central to regional government officials.

The implementation of the COVID-19 vaccine immunization in this route will be carried out directly by the Ministry of Health. Meanwhile, independent vaccination will be carried out by the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN).

Unlike the government vaccines, which are free, this standalone vaccine is paid for using private money. However, it is not yet known how much it costs for two shots of the vaccine.

"The initial independent vaccines are indeed assigned to those with good economies, who are capable," said the Minister of BUMN, in a webinar with the theme of COVID-19 Vaccination Data Infrastructure Readiness, Tuesday (24/11).

After various protests, Jokowi finally decided to eliminate the COVID-19 vaccine for all. "So after receiving a lot of input from the public and after recalculating, recalculating state finances, I can say that the Covid-19 vaccine for the public is free. Once again it's free, there is no charge at all, "said Jokowi via the Presidential Secretariat YouTube broadcast, on Wednesday (16/12)

How to register for a vaccine

Currently, only people aged 18-59 years can get the COVID-19 vaccine without dangerous comorbids. So people outside that age group cannot register because the vaccine is not yet available.

Those who meet the following requirements can enroll in the independent COVID-19 vaccination program through the application or website. In this case, the Ministry of BUMN collaborates with PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk. (TLKM) and PT Bio Farma to build applications and websites including the entire vaccine distribution infrastructure.

Registration for the COVID-19 vaccine can be done independently through the application or website, while those in areas with minimal internet access will be assisted by local officials such as babinsa.

This registration is done by pre-ordering or pre-ordering vaccines. Data required for COVID-19 vaccination reservations:

  1. No. ID card
  2. Mobile phone number
  3. Full name
  4. Place and date of birth
  5. Home address
  6. Gender
  7. Marital status

After making the payment, the patient will receive a QR code proof of payment which will be used for validation at the vaccination site. Further information regarding the injection schedule for the first dose and the second dose will continue to be provided through the application.

Later, people who have vaccinated with this complete dose will get a certificate indicating that they have been vaccinated. One of these certificates can be used for travel purposes.
