What is the function of Chlor-Trimeton?

Chlor-Trimeton is a drug used to relieve sinus congestion, sinus pressure, runny nose, watery eyes, itching in the nose and throat, and sneezing caused by upper respiratory tract infections (flu), allergies, and fever. It can also be used for other conditions as detected by your doctor.

Chlor-Trimeton is a drug that is classified as an antihistamine. This drug works by blocking the action of histamine, which helps reduce symptoms such as watery eyes and sneezing. The active ingredient in this drug is chlorpheniramine.

How do you use Chlor-Trimeton?

If you are taking a prescription product, read all the rules for taking the medication on the product package before taking this medicine. If you have any questions, consult your pharmacist, if your doctor prescribes this drug, take it as recommended.

Take tablets, capsules, or fluids by mouth with or without food. Follow the dosage directions on the label, or take as directed by your doctor. This medication can be taken with food or milk in case of stomach upset.

If you take capsules extended release , swallow it whole. Do not crush or chew it. Doing so will release the drug in an instant, increasing the risk of side effects. D

Also, don't open the tablet extended release unless it has an open line and your doctor tells you to. Swallow it whole or open the tablet without crushing or chewing it.

If you are taking this drug in liquid form, use a dose gauge to measure the dose. Don't use a kitchen spoon. If your liquid is a suspension, shake the bottle before consuming it.

Do not use this supplement in excess of the recommended dosage. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

How to store this drug?

Chlor-Trimeton is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it.

Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when the drug has expired or when it is no longer needed.

What is the dose of Chlor-Trimeton for adults?

• Tablet or syrup: 4 mg every 4-6 hours; should not exceed 24 mg / day
• Extended release tablet: 8 mg every 8-12 hours mg q12 hours; should not exceed 24 mg / day
• Extended release capsule: 12 mg per day; should not exceed 24 mg / day
• Sustained release capsules: 8-12 mg per 8-12 hours, up to 16-24 mg / day

Chlor-Trimeton dosage for the elderly

• 4 mg per day or 12 hours
• Sustained release: 8 mg per day

Use in the elderly may pose a greater risk of confusion, dry mouth, constipation, anticholinergic effects and poisoning.

May cause low urine conditions or benign prostatic hyperplasia.

• <2 years: safety & effectiveness is not guaranteed
• 2-6 years: 1 mg every 4-6 hours; should not exceed 6 mg / day
• 6-12 years: 2 mg per 4-6 hours; should not exceed 12 mg / day
• > 12 years:
  • Tablet or syrup: 4 mg per 4-6 hours; should not exceed 24 mg / day
  • Extended release tablet: 8 mg per 8-12 hours mg q12 hours; should not exceed 24 mg / day
  • Extended release capsule: 12 mg per day; should not exceed 24 mg / day

• Chlor-Trimeton 12 hours (tablet, extended release): 12 mg chlorpheniramine maleate
• Chlor-Trimeton allergy, 4 hours (tablets, 24 tablets): 4 mg chlorpheniramine maleate

What should I pay attention to before using Chlor-Trimeton?

Tell your doctor if any of these medical symptoms appear:

• If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
• If you are taking other prescription or nonprescription drugs, herbs, or dietary supplements
• If you have allergies to drugs, food, or other substances
• If you have a fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
• If you have a history of asthma, lung problems (emphysema), heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart artery problems, stroke, glaucoma, obstruction in the stomach or intestines, ulcers, obstruction in the bladder, problems passing urine, prostate enlargement, seizures, or an overactive thyroid.

Contraindicated

• Hypersensitivity
• Decreased respiratory disease, such as asthma
• Newborn baby
• Breastfeeding women
• Acute asthma, sleep apnea

Use caution using this medication if you have narrow angle closure glaucoma, prostate hypertrophy, stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstruction, or bladder neck obstruction.

Is Chlor-Trimeton safe for pregnant and lactating women?

Side effects

What are the possible side effects of Chlor-Trimeton?

The following are the side effects that can occur:

• headache
• constipation
• stomach ache
• blurry vision
• lack of coordination
• or dry mouth / nose / throat

This effect may diminish as your body adjusts to treatment. If this condition worsens contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Chlorpheniramine can dry out and thicken the mucus in your lungs, make it harder for you to breathe and clear your lungs. To help prevent this, drink plenty of fluids unless otherwise advised by your doctor.

Overdose

What should I do in an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or overdose, contact the local emergency services provider (119) or immediately to the nearest hospital emergency department.

The following are symptoms of a drug overdose that you need to be aware of:

• nausea
• throws up
• dizzy
• lost balance
• numbness and tingling
• convulsions

It is very important to carry a written list of all the prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking in an emergency.

What should I do if I forget to take / take medicine?

If you forget a dose of Chlor-Trimeton, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose in one drink.
