What Drug Dutasteride?
What is dutasteride for?
Dutasteride is a drug used in men to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia-BPH). It works by inhibiting prostate enlargement. This medication helps to relieve symptoms of BPH such as difficulty urinating, small passages of urine, and the need to urinate frequently or suddenly needing to urinate (including in the middle of the night). This medication can also help reduce the chances of surgical BPH treatment.
Dutasteride has not been shown to prevent prostate cancer. This drug may slightly increase the risk of triggers for prostate cancer. Talk with your doctor about the benefits and risks of using this drug.
This medicine should not be used by women or children.
How do I use dutasteride?
This medication is taken with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. Swallow the whole drug. Do not crush or chew it. Use this remedy regularly for significant benefits. As a reminder, take the medication at the same time every day.
Because this medicine can be absorbed through the skin and can harm an unborn baby, women who are pregnant or who may be pregnant are not allowed to handle or touch this medicine.
It may take 3-6 months for symptoms to improve. Tell your doctor if symptoms persist or if they get worse.
How is dutasteride stored?
This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Usual Adult Dose for Prostatic Hyperplasia Benign
Typical dosage: dutasteride 0.5 mg orally once a day
Can be given as monotherapy or in combination with tamsulosin 0.4 mg once daily

What side effects can be experienced due to dutasteride?

- contact your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to dutasteride, finasteride (Propecia, Proscar), other drugs, or any of the ingredients in dutasteride capsules. Ask your doctor or check the user information section on the package
- contact your doctor and pharmacist about all the drugs you use either with or without a prescription, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products that you use or plan to use. Be sure to name one of the following substances: antifungals such as ketoconazole (Nizoral); cimetidine (Tagamet); ciprofloxacin (Cipro); diltiazem (Cardizem, Dilacor, Tiazac); ritonavir, (Norvir), troleandomycin (TAO); and verapamil (Calan, Covera, Isoptin, Verelan). Your doctor may need to change the dose of your medication or monitor you carefully to prevent side effects
- tell your doctor if you have or have ever had liver disease or prostate cancer
- It is important to know that dutasteride is used only for men. Women, especially those who are or may be pregnant are not allowed to hold / touch dutasteride capsules. Touching the contents of the capsules can harm the fetus. If a woman who is pregnant accidentally touches a leaking capsule, she should immediately wash the affected area with soap and water and contact a doctor immediately.
- It is important to note that you are not allowed to donate blood while you are taking dutasteride and for 6 months after you stop taking this medicine.

Taking this medication with the drugs below may increase your risk of side effects, but in some cases, a combination of these two drugs may be the best treatment. If both drugs are prescribed for you, your doctor will usually change the dosage or determine how often you should take them.
