All humans must have cried. We can cry for various reasons, whether because of losing a loved one, feeling happy, the effect of watching a movie, or because of frustration. This is very natural.
Tears actually don't just come out because we feel emotional. There are at least 3 types of tears, namely basal tears to protect the eyes, reflex tears or tears that come out reflex in response to irritation, and the last is emotional tears. But surely there is the question why do we feel tired and dizzy after crying?
Causes tired and dizzy after crying
This is the reason why you feel tired and dizzy after crying.
1. Stress hormone
When you cry, your body releases stress hormones. These hormones naturally cause changes in your body, including causing headaches. Some people have mild headaches but there are some people who experience headaches like migraines.
2. Dehydration
Crying also causes you to lose some body fluids. This is what makes you dehydrated and feel tired. Dizziness, extreme thirst, and dry mouth at the same time are symptoms of severe dehydration which can trigger muscle contractions, low blood pressure and flatulence.
3. Sinus problems
Too long crying makes the tears contaminate with the air that enters the nasal cavity, which causes the nose to become inflamed. For some people with sinus problems, this can cause a headache accompanied by a throbbing pain between the eyes and nose. Some people are so sensitive to it that it makes them feel persistent headaches.
4. Inflammation
Apart from releasing stress hormones, crying also causes inflammation in the body which causes the facial nerves to be disturbed. Facial nerve disorders are often associated with migraines and other serious headaches.
How to relieve dizziness after crying?
1. Take a break
It cannot be denied that sleep is the best solution to relax the body. After you have finished crying, it is recommended to sleep for some time to help you reduce the pain of the headaches. When you wake up, your body will become fresher and fit again.
2. Drink water
After crying, calm yourself by drinking lots of water. The reason is, drinking water helps you replace body fluids lost during crying. Never drink alcohol after crying, this will only make your condition worse.
3. Consumption of analgesic drugs
Take headache medications such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and the like. But sometimes for more serious problems, prolonged headaches are a sign of depression. Immediately consult a doctor if the headache does not go away.
4. Massage the head
Massage your head while massaging using your fingertips slowly to reduce tension in your head muscles. If necessary, you can also call a professional masseuse to get more comfort.
