What is Lincomycin for?

Lincomycin is an antibiotic drug with a function to attack bacteria.

Lincomycin is generally used to treat severe bacterial infections in people who cannot use penicillin antibiotics.

Lincomycin is only used for severe infections. This medicine will not treat viral infections such as cold or flu. Lincomycin can also be used for things that are not on the list of drug instructions.

How to use Lincomycin?

Lincomycin is injected into a muscle, or into a vein through an IV. You may be taught how to use the IV at home. Do not inject drugs yourself if you do not know how to inject and properly dispose of needles, IV tubes, and other equipment for injecting drugs.

Lincomycin is usually given every 12-24 hours. Follow the doctor's rules. Use a disposable syringe and throw it away in a safe place (ask the pharmacist where to get it and how to dispose of it). Keep this place away from children and pets.

Continue to use this medication until the prescribed one is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days.

Skipping doses can increase the risk of further infection that is resistant to the antibiotic.

Call your doctor when the first symptoms of diarrhea occur during and immediately after therapy with lincomycin.

If you are using this medication long-term you may need frequent medical tests. Kidney and liver function also need to be checked.

How is Lincomycin stored?

What side effects can be experienced due to Lincomycin?

Seek emergency medical help right away if you develop signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Tell your doctor if you experience serious side effects such as:

• Watery or bloody diarrhea
• Urinating infrequently or not at all
• Fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms
• Severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash
• Feel like passing out
• Bruising or bleeding easily, unusual limp
• White, sore stains in your mouth or on your lips

The less severe side effects include:

• Nauseous vomit
• Swollen and painful tongue
• Vaginal itching or discharge
• Itching or mild skin rash
• Ringing in ears
• Dizziness, feeling of spinning
