What is the drug Nadroparin Calcium used for?
Nadroparin is a drug to prevent and treat deep vein thrombosis, a condition in which dangerous blood clots form in the veins of the legs. These blood clots can travel to the lungs and lodged in the pulmonary veins, causing a condition called pulmonary embolism. Nadroparin is used for a few days after surgery, when you cannot walk. Nadroparin is also used to prevent blood clots during hemodialysis.
These drugs are only available by prescription.

How to store Nadroparin Calcium?

Precautions & Warnings
What should be considered before using the drug Nadroparin Calcium?
Before using Nadroparin Calcium:
- Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to this and other medicines
- Tell your doctor and pharmacist about any medications (both prescription and nonprescription) including the vitamins you are taking.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are currently breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while being treated with this medicine, contact your doctor
- Tell your doctor if you have acute infectious endocarditis; haemorrhage or haemostasis disorders; active peptic wound; haemorrhagic cerebrovascular event; uncontrolled severe high blood pressure; diabetes or haemorrhagic retinopathy; injury to CNS, eye or ear surgery; history of having thrombocytopenia w / nadroparin.
Is Nadroparin Calcium safe for pregnant and lactating women?
There is no adequate research on the risks of using this drug in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Always consult your doctor to weigh the potential benefits and risks before using this medication. This drug is included in the risk of pregnancy category B. (A = No risk, B = No risk in some studies, C = Possible risk, D = There is positive evidence of risk, X = Contraindicated, N = unknown)
Side effects
What are the possible side effects of Nadroparin Calcium?
Stop using this drug and seek medical help immediately, if any of the following side effects occur
General
- Dark purple bruising, pain, or swelling at the injection site
Rare
- Back pain
- Black stool
- Bleeding from the mouth or gums
- There is blood in the urine
- Skin discoloration
- Discoloration or redness of the skin
- The skin feels burning, prickling, tingling, or tingling
- Cough
- Difficulty swallowing
- Dizziness or feel like fainting
- Fever
- Itchy rash
- Skin feels itchy
- Legs feel weak
- Nosebleed
- Numb
- Paralysis
- Bladder or bowel function problems
- Redness or peeling in the area of the injection site

- Abortion (risk)
- Bleeding Problems
- Eye problems caused by diabetes or high blood pressure
- Heart infection

- Injury or surgery involving the brain, ears, eyes, or spinal cord
- Liver disease
- Low blood platelet count
- Injury to the stomach or intestines
- Stroke - The risk of bleeding may increase
- Kidney disease - Nadroparin is removed from the body by the kidneys; patients with kidney disease may have to receive a lower dose of Nadroparin

What is the dose of the drug Nadroparin Calcium for adults?
Subcutaneous
Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis during Surgical Procedures
Adult:
Moderate risk patients: 2850 units daily for 7 days or until patient can be mobilized; give the first dose 2-4 hours before surgery.
High-risk patients: 38 units / kg 12 hours before surgery, 12 hours post-surgery and then daily for up to 3 days after surgery; increase the dose by 50% to 57 units / kg daily. Total duration of treatment: At least 10 days.
Moderate to severe renal impairment: dose reduction may be required
Subcutaneous
Thromboembolic Disorders
Adults: 85 units / kg every 12 hours for up to 10 days or 171 units / kg / day once a day.
Moderate to severe renal impairment: dose reduction may be required.
Intra-arterial
Prophylaxis of Freezing in Extracorporeal Circulation during Hemodialysis Sessions of <4 hours
Adult:
50-69 kg: 3800 units;
≥70 kg: 5700 units.
The drug is administered directly into the arterial circuit at the start of dialysis.
Patients at high risk of bleeding: reduce dose.
Parenteral
Angina is unstable
Adults: 86 units / kg SC every 12 hours for approx. 6 days. An initial dose of 86 units / kg can be given IV. Low-dose aspirin should also be given.
