Olmesartan What Medicine?
What is the drug Olmesartan used for?
Olmesartan is a drug for managing high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Olmesartan belongs to a class of cardiovascular drugs called angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). This medication works by relaxing the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. Olmesartan is also used to treat heart failure.
What are the rules for using Olmesartan drugs?
Follow the medication instructions given by your doctor or pharmacist before you start using this medicine. If you have questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medication as directed by your doctor, usually once daily with or without food. Dosage is based on medical condition and response to treatment.
If you are using this medication in liquid form, shake the bottle well before each dose. Measure the dose carefully with a special measuring device / spoon. Don't use a household spoon as you may not get the correct dose.
If you are also taking certain medications to lower your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine, colesevelam, colestipol), take olmesartan at least 4 hours before these medicines.
Use this remedy regularly to get its benefits. To help you remember, use it at the same time every day. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you are already feeling well. Most people with high blood pressure don't feel sick.
Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or gets worse (for example, your blood pressure reading has increased).
Follow the rules given by your doctor or pharmacist before starting treatment. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

- Tell your doctor if you have diabetes (high blood sugar) and are taking aliskiren (Tunjukna, di Amturnide, Tekamlo, Tunjukna HCT, Valturna). Your doctor will probably tell you not to use olmesartan if you have diabetes and also use aliskiren.
- Tell your doctor and pharmacist about prescription and nonprescription drugs, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products that you are using or will be using. Be sure to mention the following: angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors such as benazepril (Lotensin), captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), fosinopril (Monopril), lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril), moexipril (Univasc), perindopril (Aceon)), quinapril (Accupril), ramipril (Altace), Trandolapril (Mavik); angiotensin II receptor antagonists (angiotensin receptor blockers; ARBs) such as azilsartan (Edarbi), candesartan (Atacand, at Atacand HCT), eprosartan (Teveten, in Teveten HCT), irbesartan (Avapro, on Avalide), losartan (Cozaar, in Hyzaar), telmisartan (Micardis, on Micardis HCT), valsartan (Diovan, in Diovan HCT, Exforge); colesevelam (Welchol); diuretics ('water pills'); aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn); and potassium supplements. Your doctor may need to change the dose of your medication or monitor you carefully for side effects.
- Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had heart failure, or kidney or liver disease.
- Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
- You should know that olmesartan can cause dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting when you get up too quickly from a lying position. This condition is more common when you first start using olmesartan. To help avoid this problem, get out of bed slowly, resting your feet on the floor for a few minutes before standing up.
- You should know diarrhea, vomiting, not drinking enough fluids, and sweating profusely can all cause a drop in blood pressure, which can lead to lightheadedness and fainting. Tell your doctor if you have this problem or experience it during your treatment.
