What is Oxprenolol used for?

Oxprenolol is a drug to treat high blood pressure and reduce or prevent chest pain (angina). This medication is also used to treat several heart disorders such as an irregular heartbeat and to relieve symptoms of anxiety.

Oxprenolol tablets contain the active ingredient oxprenolol hydrochloride. Oxprenolol hydrochloride belongs to a group of drugs called beta-blockers.

What are the rules for using Oxprenolol drugs?

Always use Oxprenolol exactly as your doctor has directed. You should check with your doctor if you are unsure.

Swallow your tablet whole with a glass of water.

How to store Oxprenolol?

What should be considered before using Oxprenolol drugs?

Do not use Oxprenolol if you:

• Allergy to oxprenolol, other beta-blockers, or any of the other ingredients of Oxprenolol Tablets (allergic reactions including mild symptoms such as itching and / or rash. More severe symptoms include swelling of the face, lips, tongue and or throat with difficulty swallowing or breathe)
• Have a history of asthma attacks or wheezing
• Have heart problems (eg heart failure, cardiogenic shock)
• Have an untreated tumor of the adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma);
• Have a heart rhythm disorder (sinus disease syndrome)
• Have a very low pulse rate (less than 50 beats per minute)
• Have variant angina (certain types of chest pain)
• Have acid levels in your blood
• Metabolic acidosis
• Planning on having surgery that involves anesthetic
• Suffering from severe peripheral circulatory problems

Oxprenolol is not recommended for use in children

Is Oxprenolol safe for pregnant and lactating women?

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: There is not enough information about the safety of using this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side effects

What are the possible side effects of Oxprenolol?

Like all medicines, Oxprenolol can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them.

If it occurs:

• Itching or skin rash
• Difficulty breathing or a wheezing sound

Stop taking medication and get medical help right away. These may be signs of an allergic reaction.

Other possible side effects include: very common side effects (occurs in more than 1 in 10 patients)

• Dry mouth
• Constipation

Common side effects (occur in between 1 in 10 and 1 in 100 patients)

• Fatigue
• Dizzy
• Headache
• Depression
• Heart failure
• Low blood pressure
• Cold hands and feet, numbness or tingling sensation
• Feeling sick
• Wheezing or difficulty breathing
• Reducing sex drive or impotence

Rare side effects (occur in between 1 in 100 and 1 in 1000 patients)

• Sleep problems and nightmares
• Very slow heart rate
• Diarrhea
• Unwell
• Blurred vision
• Irregular heartbeat
• Colds
• Skin problems (allergic skin reactions that may include redness, itching or rash)

Drug Interactions

What drugs can interfere with the action of the drug Oxprenolol?

Although certain drugs should not be used at the same time, in other cases two different drugs can be used together even if interactions are possible. In this case, your doctor may be able to change the dose or take other precautions that may be needed. Can certain foods and drinks interfere with the work of Oxprenolol drugs?

What health conditions can interfere with the performance of the drug Oxprenolol?

The presence of other health problems in your body may affect the use of this medicine. Tell your doctor if you have other health problems, such as:

• First-stage atrioventricular blockage (a heart problem in which the electrical signal to your heart slows down)
• Diabetes and using insulin or other anti-diabetic drugs;
• Have had a serious allergic reaction (for example, abnormal sensitivity to insect bites or stings, severe eczema or eczema)
• An overactive thyroid gland disorder (hyperthyroidism)
• Serious liver or kidney problems
• Raynaud's disease (poor blood circulation in the hands and feet)

Chest pain (angina)

80-160 mg daily given in 2 to 3 doses. The maximum daily dose is 320 mg.

High blood pressure (hypertension)

80-160 mg daily given in 2 to 3 doses. The maximum daily dose is 320 mg.

Irregular heartbeat

20-80 mg used 2 or 3 times a day. The maximum daily dose is 240 mg.

Worry

The starting dose is 40 mg used twice daily. A single dose of Oxprenolol (40-80 mg) can be used for anxiety during certain stressful situations.

What is the dosage of the drug Oxprenolol for children?

Safety and effectiveness are not known in pediatric patients (less than 18 years).

20 mg tablet; 40 mg

What to do in an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or overdose, contact the local emergency services provider (118/119) or immediately to the nearest hospital emergency department.

What should I do if I forget to take medicine or forget to take medicine?

If you forget a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
