A recent study revealed that the unemployed will have a 50 percent higher risk of heart attack than those who work. In addition, the risk of other unemployment hazards will make a person more susceptible to depression, mental disorders, and even more severe death.

Why is unemployment more at risk of having a heart attack?

Having a job either being an office worker or owning your own business is a matter of pride for each individual. That is why when someone becomes unemployed, they are prone to experiencing stress to depression because they do not have anything to be proud of or there is no financial security that can be a guarantee of life.

A surprising study has stated that those who are unemployed are prone to heart attacks.

According to Rasmus Roerth, a researcher from the Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark, who led the study. Having a job can improve one's welfare status and appearance. On the other hand, when you lose your job or don't have a job, it is associated with an increased risk of depression, mental health problems, and even suicidal thoughts.

The study, which was presented at the Heart Failure 2017 and the 4th World Congress on Acute Heart Failure, examined all inpatients who were of productive or working age, namely 18-60 years. This study used patient data from 1997 to 2012.

Of the 21,455 hospitalized patients for heart disease, as many as 55 percent or the equivalent of 11,880 patients were unemployed. During 1,005 days, 16 percent of patients who worked and 31 percent of patients who were unemployed were known to have died. After adjusting for age, sex, and education level, heart failure patients who were unemployed or did not work had a 50% increased risk of death.
