Reboxetine is part of a group of drugs called antidepressants.

Tablets should be taken in 2 different doses, 1 dose in the morning and 1 dose in the evening. You have to swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Don't chew the tablet.

What is the dosage for Reboxetine for adults?

  • For adults, the usual dose is 8 mg per day (1 tablet 4 mg 2 times a day). Depending on how you respond to treatment, after 3-4 weeks your doctor may ask you to take up to 10 mg per day if needed. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 12 mg.
  • In patients with poor kidney or liver function, the starting dose is 4 mg per day. The dosage can be increased depending on the individual response.
  • The use of reboxetine 4 mg tablets is not recommended for elderly patients.
  • reboxetine should not be used in children or adolescents under 18 years of age.

Side effects

What side effects might Reboxetine have?

  • Increased heart rate, palpitations
  • Blood vessels dilate, blood pressure falls when standing, blood pressure increases
  • Gag
  • Rash
  • Sensation of not being able to empty the bladder, urinary infections, pain when urinating,
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence), pain during ejaculation, delayed ejaculation
  • Shivering

Rare side effects (in 1 - 10 in 1000 patients)

  • Dilated pupils
  • Spinning sensation

Rare side effects (between 1 - 10 in 10 000 patients)

  • Glaucoma (a condition that causes increased pressure on the eye).

Interaction

What medicines may interact with Reboxetine?

Reboxetine may interact with other medications, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following drugs:

  • Certain antifungals, such as ketoconazole
  • Certain antibiotics, such as erythromycin, rifampicin
  • Ergot-derived medications for treating migraines or Parkinson's disease
  • Certain antidepressants, MAO inhibitors, tricyclics, nefazodone
  • SSR (such as fluvoxamine) or lithium
  • Other MAO inhibitors such as linezolid (antibiotic) and methylene blue (to treat high methaemoglobin in the blood)
  • Diuretics (drugs to eliminate water), such as thiazides
  • Medicines for epilepsy, such as phenobarbital, carbamazepine and phenytoin
  • Herbal remedies that contain St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum)

Your doctor will tell you if you can use reboxetine with other medicines. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are currently or have recently used other medications, including over-the-counter medicines, herbal medicines, and vitamins and minerals.

Can food or alcohol interact with Reboxetine?

Certain drugs should not be used with meals or when eating certain foods because drug interactions can occur. Consuming alcohol or tobacco with certain drugs can also cause interactions to occur. Discuss your use of drugs with food, alcohol, or tobacco with your health care provider.

What health conditions may interact with Reboxetine?

Any other health conditions you have can affect the use of this drug. Always tell your doctor if you have other health problems, especially if you:

  • Are using drugs to lower blood pressure
  • Have liver or kidney problems. The doctor needs to adjust the dosage
  • Are using other medications for depression, such as MAO inhibitors, tricyclics, nefazodone, SSRIs (such as fluvoxamine) or lithium
  • Are currently using MAO inhibitors such as linezolid (antibiotic) or methylene blue
  • Have experienced episodes of mania (overactive behavior or thoughts)
  • Have eye disorders, such as certain types of glaucoma (increased pressure on the eye).

Overdose

What should I do in an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or overdose, contact the local emergency services provider (118/119) or immediately to the nearest hospital emergency department.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you forget a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
