You are in a strange place when suddenly people you know appear. Instantly you feel something strange about the atmosphere at that time. Could it be that you are actually dreaming? Then why do you realize you are dreaming? Take it easy, the phenomenon of being awake in dreams is quite common, really. The term is lucid dream or lucid dream.

Lucid dream is a state in which a person realizes he is dreaming and he can control what happens in his dream. Why does someone experience this and is it related to occult experiences? Find out the explanation here.

What happens when you go inside lucid dream ?

Dreams occur when you enter the REM sleep stage or rapid eye movement. Humans do have four stages of sleep. The first is chicken sleep, the second stage begins to fall asleep, the third is deep sleep, then the last stage is REM sleep.

In the REM sleep stage, the slowed heart rate, breathing, and eye movements become faster. However, this all happened while you were still asleep. These are the stages of sleep that make dreams possible. Lucid dream also occurs at this stage of sleep.

This phenomenon is characterized by your realization that you are dreaming at that time, not in the real world. Then, unlike dreams in general, you have control over what happens in the dream. For example in your lucid dream you saw a house across the river. You don't know what or who is in the house, so you consciously move yourself to cross the river and approach the house, just like in the real world.

However, the events in your lucid dream do not necessarily make sense. Like any other dream, you can do things that are impossible in the real world or meet unexpected people. For example, you dream that you are on an airplane with your idol artist. Then consciously, you dare to invite the artist to jump off the plane together.

In the real world, things like this couldn't happen, could they? However, it is precisely because you realize that you are in a dream, so you dare to talk directly to idol artists without being nervous. Unmitigated, you also jump out of the plane and hover in the sky. This means that you have control over your own dreams.

Is everyone can experience lucid dream ?

Actually, everyone has the ability to realize they are dreaming, but depending on how quickly you realize this and then can control it. At least everyone will experience lucid dream once in his lifetime by accident.

Are lucid dreams useful for health?

The purpose humans experience lucid dream itself is not certain. However, many therapists and experts use lucid dreaming as a treatment or therapy. For example, to heal psychological trauma, increase self-confidence, develop self-sensitivity, and explore the subconscious.

The reason is, in your lucid dream, you can do things that you cannot or may not do in the real world. Even some therapists will trigger lucid dreams in people who are paralyzed so that in their dreams they can feel free to move and walk.

You can practice in order to have lucid dreams

Although in most cases lucid dreams just happen by accident, experts have devised several techniques for triggering lucid dreams.

One of them is that before going to bed you have to take the time to think about what you want to dream of. Maybe you want to find a solution to a problem at hand or go somewhere. Whatever it is, focus on those thoughts until you fall asleep.

This process is called predetermination and must always be practiced repeatedly over a long period of time. You can also induce lucid dreams by getting in the habit of getting up every five to six hours. However, this method is not recommended to be done every day because it can mess up your sleep hours. Irregular or insufficient hours of sleep can certainly endanger health.

Deep brain activity lucid dream

A study at Bonn University reveals how the body, particularly the brain, changes as it enters lucid dream . This research was conducted on 20 students who had been trained for four months to have the ability to dream lucidly. After being trained, six participants were selected who experienced lucid dreams more than 3 times per week.

The results of the study showed that when participants had lucid dreams, the electrical activity in the brain in certain areas increased. This activity is very similar to the activity of a person who is conscious or awakened from sleep. However, this happened when the participants entered the REM sleep stage.

Therefore, lucid dreams are actually a medical phenomenon that can be investigated further. So having a lucid dream does not mean that you are visiting another dimension or are experiencing occult events. Lucid dreams are simply abnormalities in brain activity that occur while you are sleeping.
