What is the drug Somatrem used for?

Somatrem is a drug for the long-term treatment of children who experience failure to thrive due to a lack of endogenous growth hormone production.

What are the rules for using Somatrem's medicine?

Every 5 mg vial should be diluted with 1-5 mL Bacteriostatic water for injection, USP (benzyl alcohol preserved); or every 10 mg vial should be diluted with 1-10 mL Bacteriostatic water for injection, USP (benzyl alcohol preserved) only. The pH of Protropin (somatrem) after being diluted with bacteriostatic water for injection, USP (benzyl alcohol preserved) is approximately 7.8.

To prepare the Protropin (somatrem) solution, inject bacteriostatic water for injection, USP (benzyl alcohol preserved) into the ptr vial, until it reaches the liquid on the glass wall. Then shake the vial product in a gentle circular motion until all the components are dissolved. DON'T ROCK. Ptr must clear immediately after dissolving. Sometimes, after freezing, you may notice that there are tiny, colorless particles of protein present in ptr. This is not uncommon for solutions containing protein. If the solution immediately fogs up immediately after dissolving or freezing, this remedy SHOULD NOT injected.

Before inserting the needle, clean the insulation of the ptr and thawing vial by rubbing alcohol or an antiseptic solution to prevent contamination of the content of microorganisms that may be transmitted from repeated needle use. It is recommended that ptr should be administered using sterile, single-use needles and syringes. The syringe should be small enough for the volume of the dose prescribed so that it is accurate.

How to save Somatrem?

This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.

What should be considered before using the drug Somatrem?

Before using Somatrem,

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine
• Talk to your doctor if before using Somatrem you had thyroid problems, diabetes, or scoliosis (an abnormal shape of the spine).
• Make sure your doctor knows if you have ever had cancer, tumors, or other diseases in the head or brain
• Very rarely, patients on somatrem develop resistance to the drug, and the drug stops working. If you think the growth is very slow, consult your doctor
• If you become sick or have an accident and need to be placed in an intensive care room, make sure your doctor knows you are using somatrem. Your doctor may stop giving you somatrem until you feel better
• Some patients who take growth hormone have developed leukemia. It is not known whether growth hormone causes leukemia. If you have questions about the risks and benefits of treatment, consult your doctor.

Is the drug Somatrem safe for pregnant and lactating women?

Side effects

What are the possible side effects of Somatrem?

• Allergic reactions: hives, swelling of the face or hands, swelling or tingling in the mouth or throat, tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing
• Blurred vision or other changes in vision
• Low back or knee pain, sticky

What should I do if I forget to take medicine or forget to take medicine?

If you forget a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
