What medicine Temazepam?

What is temazepam for?

Temazepam is a drug commonly used to treat insomnia. Temazepam can help you fall asleep faster, last longer, and reduce the number of times you wake up at night so you can enjoy a better night's rest. Temazepam is classified as a sedative-hypnotic class drug. Medicines of this class work by stimulating the nerves of the brain to produce a calming effect.

The use of this drug is usually limited to short-term treatment, between 1-2 weeks or less. If your insomnia persists for a long time, contact your doctor to make sure you are getting follow-up therapy.

How to use temazepam?

Read the drug's guide and the Patient Information Leaflet provided by the pharmacy, if available, before you get this medication and each time you buy it again. If you have questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication only by mouth, with or without food, as recommended by your doctor. Temazepam is commonly consumed at bedtime. The dosage is always given based on your age, health condition, and how you respond to therapy.

Although rare, the side effects of this drug can cause short-term memory loss. To minimize this possibility, it is not recommended to take this drug unless you have enough sleep at night, at least 7 - 8 hours. If you have to wake up before then, you will likely experience temporary memory loss.

This medication can cause withdrawal reactions (withdrawal syndrome, also known as withdrawal), especially if it is used routinely for a long period of time. In some cases, withdrawal symptoms (such as nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, nervousness, seizures) may occur if you suddenly decide on a dose of this drug. To prevent these reactions, your doctor will reduce the dose gradually. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information, report any signs of withdrawal syndrome you feel immediately.

If this medicine is used for a long period of time or in high doses, the efficacy may not be optimal. Talk to your doctor if this drug is not working effectively for your body.

Along with its properties, this drug is addictive in nature. This risk can increase if you have a history of addiction to alcohol or drugs. Take this drug exactly as prescribed to reduce the risk of addiction.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or even gets worse after 7-10 days.

You may have trouble sleeping in the first few nights when you stop this therapy. This is commonly known as recurrent insomnia and is fairly normal. It will disappear after 1-2 nights. If these effects persist, contact your doctor.

How do you store temazepam?

This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.

What is the dose of temazepam for adults?

The usual dose for adults with insomnia

15mg taken directly before bed at night.

Dosage range: 7.5 - 30 mg

The usual dosage for elderly people with insomnia

7.5 mg orally before going to bed at night.

The dose may be increased according to the response of each individual.

Temazepam side effects

What side effects can be experienced due to temazepam?

Seek immediate medical help if you experience any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using temazepam and contact your doctor immediately if you experience serious side effects, such as:

• short, weak breath
• fast and irregular heartbeat
• dazed, halting speech, unusual thoughts and behavior
• hallucinations, restless and irritable, and aggressive
• a tendency to commit suicide or self-harm
• restless muscle movements in the eyes, mouth, chin, and neck
• pale skin, bleeding easily, and unusual fatigue
• fever, chills, not feeling well, flu symptoms
• problems with urinating
• nausea, stomach pain, low-grade fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the eyes and skin);

The more common side effects include:

• drowsiness and weakness during the day (or while you are not sleeping)
• amnesia or senile
• muscle weakness, balance and coordination disorders
• numbness, burning sensation, pain, and tingling feeling
• headache, blurred vision, depression
• nervous, passionate, and irritable
• nausea, vomiting, bad stomach
• dry mouth and thirst

Not everyone experiences the following side effects. There may be some side effects not listed above. If you have concerns about certain side effects, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

What should be known before using temazepam?

Before using certain drugs, consider the risks and benefits first. This is a decision you and your doctor will have to make. For this drug, pay attention to the following:

Allergy

Tell your doctor if you have any unusual or allergic reactions to this or any other medicine. Also tell your doctor if you have any other types of allergies such as to food, coloring, preservatives, or animal allergies. For over-the-counter products, read the labels on the packaging carefully.

Children

There is not yet sufficient information regarding the relationship of age in pediatric patients with the effects of using this drug. Safety and efficacy have not been ascertained

Elderly

Many drugs have not been studied specifically in the elderly. Therefore, it is not known whether this drug will work as well as in young adults. However, extreme drowsiness, confusion, carelessness, or shaky balance is more likely to occur in elderly patients, because they will generally be more sensitive to the effects of drugs, such as temazepam. Elderly patients may need lower doses to help with insomnia to reduce the risk of side effects.

Is temazepam safe for pregnant and lactating women?

There are no adequate studies regarding the risks of using this drug in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Taking this medication with the drugs below may increase your risk of side effects, but in some cases, a combination of these two drugs may be the best treatment. If both drugs are prescribed for you, your doctor will usually change the dosage or determine how often you should take them.

Can food or alcohol interact with temazepam?

Certain drugs should not be used with meals or when eating certain foods because drug interactions can occur. Consuming alcohol or tobacco with certain drugs can also cause interactions to occur. Discuss your use of drugs with food, alcohol, or tobacco with your health care provider.

• Ethanol

What health conditions can interact with temazepam?

Any other health conditions you have can affect the use of this drug. Always tell your doctor if you have other health problems, especially:

• alcohol or drug addiction, or a history thereof
• respiratory problems or lung problems, or a history
• depression, or a history
• mental disorders, or history — use with caution. Consumption of this drug can worsen your health condition
• kidney disease
• liver disease - use with caution. The risk of side effects may increase due to prolonged excretion of the drug ingredients in the body

Temazepam overdose

What should I do in an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or overdose, contact an emergency care provider

emergency room (112) or immediately to the nearest hospital emergency department.

Overdose symptoms include:

• drowsiness and dizziness
• passed out
• fast or slow heart rate
• lost consciousness
• difficulty breathing

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you forget a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
