What is Tioconazole used for?

Tioconazole is a drug used to treat vaginal yeast infections. Tioconazole ointment relieves the burning, itching, and vaginal discharge that may occur with this condition. This medication is an azole antifungal that works by stopping the growth of the yeast (fungus) that causes infection.

Consult your doctor before using this medication for self-medication if you are experiencing a vaginal infection for the first time. This medication only works for vaginal yeast infections. You may have different types of infections (such as bacterial vaginosis) and may need different medications.

If you have fever, chills, flu-like symptoms, upset stomach, or bad smelling vaginal discharge, do not use this medicine. call your doctor right away as these may be signs of a more serious infection.

How do you use the Tioconazole drug?

If you are using an over the counter medicinal product to treat yourself, read all directions for use on the product package before using this medication. If you have any questions, consult your pharmacist. If your doctor has prescribed this medication, use it as directed.

This product is for vaginal use only. Wash your hands before and after using it. Avoid contact of this ointment with your eyes. If it gets into your eyes, wash them immediately with plenty of water. Contact a doctor if eye irritation persists.

Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

This product is usually given as a single dose at bedtime or as directed by your doctor. Learn all preparation and instructions for use in the product package. Position your body lying on your back with your knees toward your chest. Insert the applicator filled with the drug into the vagina until it is in a comfortable position. Gently press the applicator plunger to apply the ointment dose. If you experience itching / burning around the outside of the vagina (vulva), you can also apply some ointment to the area.

Do not use tampons, douches, spermicide, or other vaginal products while using this medicine. Unscented pads can be used for your menstrual period or to protect your clothes from leakage of the medicine.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve after 3 days or more than 7 days. Tell your doctor if your infection returns within 2 months. You may need different or additional medications to treat your condition.

How to store Tioconazole?

This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.

What should be considered before using the drug Tioconazole?

You should avoid wearing tight clothing, synthetic clothing such as nylon, or stockings that don't allow air to circulate. Use loose clothing made of cotton and other natural fibers until your infection clears up.

Do not use tampons, vaginal douches, spermicides, or other vaginal products while you are using thioconazole vaginally. Do not have vaginal sex during treatment.

You should not use vaginal thioconazole if you are allergic to this medicine.

Do not use this medication if you have never had a vaginal yeast infection that has been confirmed by a doctor.

Is Tioconazole safe for pregnant and lactating women?

There are no adequate studies regarding the risks of using this drug in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Always consult your doctor to weigh the potential benefits and risks before using this medication. This drug is included in the risk of pregnancy category C according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). (A = No risk, B = No risk in some studies, C = Possible risk, D = Positive evidence of risk, X = Contraindicated, N = Unknown)

Side effects

What are the possible side effects of Tioconazole?

Headache or burning / itching / pain in the vagina / urethra may occur. If any of these effects persist or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist right away.

If your doctor has prescribed this medication, keep in mind that he has judged that the benefit to you outweighs the risk of side effects. Many people using this drug do not experience serious side effects.

Very serious allergic reactions to this drug are rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any of the symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching / swelling (especially face / tongue / throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

What should I do if I forget to take medicine or forget to take medicine?

If you forget a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
