Vestibulitis is a condition that causes redness and pain in the vestibule. It is also an inflammatory skin condition, so that the glands in the hair follicles will secrete mucus that is found in the skin.
The glands that secrete mucus are called vestibular glands. Vestibulitis can occur in any part of the body where hair or hair is present, but it most commonly occurs on the vulva (outside of the vagina) or on the surface of the vagina and nasal cavity.
Vestibulitis of the vagina
Vestibulitis that occurs on the vulva can affect women of any age, and this condition is often referred to as vulvar vestibulitis syndrome, which is a type of vulvodynia. This syndrome can occur both in women who are sexually active and also in women who are not sexually active.
There are two types of vaginal vestibulitis:
1. Generalized vulvodynia
This condition is a pain that is in different areas of the vulva at different times. This pain can appear often or only occasionally, the condition varies from person to person. Sometimes pain in this part of the vagina can be triggered because the vagina is touched, but sometimes without being touched the vagina will hurt.
2. Local vulvodynia
This is a pain in condition one area of the vulva. Often times there is a feeling of stinging and pain sometimes appears when the vagina is pressed or touched. Usually appears when you have sex or sit too long.
What causes vaginal vestibulitis?
Doctors or experts have not found a definite cause of vulvodynia. There is no evidence to suggest that this painful vaginal condition is caused by an infection or sexually transmitted disease. However, experts strongly suspect that this syndrome is caused by the following:
- Irritation
- The appearance of abnormal cells on the vulva caused by infection
- Genetic factors that make the vulva prone to inflammation
- Hypersensitivity or fungal infection
- Muscle spasms
- Hormonal changes
- Frequently taking antibiotics
How to deal with vulvodynia?
There are things that can relieve pain and tenderness in the vulva, including:
- Avoid getting the vulva area exposed to shampoo or soap
- Always clean the surface of the vagina with coldness after urinating and having sex
- Wear loose panties or skirts
- Keep the vulva clean and dry
Vestibulitis can also attack the follicles in the nasal cavity
Vestibulitis can also attack your nasal cavity. Although this condition is easy to treat, sometimes this inflammation in the nasal cavity can cause serious complications.
Nasal vestibulitis can also be caused by infection from bacteria Staphylococcus caused by the following:
- Likes to pluck nose hairs
- Excessive blowing of the nose, for example when you have a cold
- Pick your nose
- As a result of nose piercing
How to treat it?
This condition can generally be treated by using topical antibiotics such as bacitracin. The use of this drug is very easy, it can be applied to the nasal cavity regularly. However, severe complications can cause ulcers and require antibiotics as prescribed by a doctor.
Sometimes complications that cause these ulcers require oral antibiotics (drinking) such as mupirocin. You may also need to apply warm compresses to the boil regularly, at least 3 times a day for 15 to 20 minutes. This aims to help dry the boil. In rare cases, your doctor may need to perform surgery.
