You want to find a snack that is fresh and sweet but afraid of fat? Or are you craving a dessert that's light but still rich in nutrients? You can choose sorbet. Sorbet is a cold snack similar to ice cream and yogurt. However, unlike ice cream and yogurt which are milk-based, sorbet is made from juices, fruit juices, or water with certain flavors. The processing process is also relatively easy.

This snack has been known since the 16th century in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Asia. Before ice cream appeared, sorbet was already people's favorite cold dessert. Sorbet is also considered healthier than its competitors, namely ice cream and yogurt. Is that right? Check out the complete information below.

Sorbet's nutritional content

In each serving of sorbet (one cup), there are different nutritional content, depending on the basic ingredients used to make it. Sorbet itself can be prepared from various kinds of fresh fruit or chocolate. On average, each cup contains 170 to 185 calories. The calories contained in this snack are low when compared to one cup of ice cream which is 267 calories or one cup frozen yogurt which is 214. You just need to run for about 20 minutes to burn off the calories you get from this fresh snack.

Apart from the lower calorie content, the amount of sugar found in this healthy snack is also relatively safe. One serving or about 200 grams contains an average of 34 grams of sugar. Meanwhile, the same serving of ice cream offers 44 grams of sugar and the same amount of yogurt contains 38 grams of sugar. Because the sorbet is made from original ingredients without a mixture of cream or milk, it is still naturally sweet, so there is no need for additional sweeteners.

No need to worry about the fat content. This cold snack is fruit-based so it doesn't contain any saturated fats. Compared to ice cream which contains about 14 grams of fat in each serving, sorbet and frozen yogurt it is safer if you are avoiding eating fatty foods. Apart from that, sorbet also contains various important vitamins and minerals that are good for your body.
