This can be especially challenging for toddlers and young children, as they may not tolerate sitting all the time - but at least encourage them to eat what they like by sitting down, and allow them to leave the table when they are done.

Involve your child. Teach your children to set the table, let them practice placing the cutlery: the fork on the left and the knife / spoon on the right. Show your child how to use a knife / fork or chopsticks and encourage them to use it. Teach them how to put their knife and fork together on the plate when they are done. Older children can take responsibility for picking up their dirty, after-dinner dishes and putting them in the dishwasher or washing them themselves.
