In the midst of the high increase in COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) removed the terms patient under surveillance (PDP), person under surveillance (ODP), and person without symptoms (OTG). Instead, the government set several new terms to be used in the handling of COVID-19.

How important is the term in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia?

"Of course this will have an impact on the future case reporting system," said the spokesman for the Government for Handling COVID-19, Achmad Yurianto, at a press conference broadcast live on the BNPB YouTube channel, Tuesday (14/7).

This changing of terms has the potential to improve statistical data in handling COVID-19. First , in cases of PDP death, previous cases of death in patients with PDP status were not reported. With this new stipulation, cases of death in patients who are confirmed positive for COVID-19 will still be recorded in the case category probable .

Second , the category of suspected cases can make it easier to record cases in statistical data. However, by being made into this category, the challenge is that the government must prepare more massive testing.

This is because in the Guidelines for Prevention and Control of COVID-19 revision-4, these ODP and PDP categories are also useful for differentiating patient severity.

ODP or PDP patients who have mild symptoms, just do it twice rapid test 10 days apart. If both results are non-reactive then the patient will test negative without having to do the RT-PCR throat swab.

While in the new guideline revision-5 rapid test not an option in diagnosis. People who fall into the suspect category should do the PCR test.
