Try to pay attention, usually a man who will express love first to his idol. I wonder why that is, huh? Is it because patriarchal culture tends to portray women as passive? Can be. However, a new study has uncovered one possible reason, namely because men fall in love faster than women. Don't believe it yet? Check out the explanation below.
According to research, usually men fall in love first
According to a study published in the Journal of Social Psychology, Marissa Harrison, who is also a psychologist at Pennsylvania University, conducted a survey of 172 people who had fallen in love.
In the interviews Harrison conducted with the students, they were asked whether they had ever fallen in love or not. Then if you answer "Yes", Harisson will then ask about how long it took them to express their love.
The results of interviews and surveys have shown that men are the ones who fall in love first. Men express their love more quickly about a few weeks after they meet or become close to someone they like. This is in contrast to a woman taking a long time to actually fall in love with a man. It generally takes women several months to really believe and dare to express their feelings of love.
Even in a different survey conducted in the UK, some 20 percent of men admit to having fallen in love at first sight. This number is certainly more than the 13 percent of women who feel that they have fallen in love at first sight.
Why do men fall in love faster than women?
The results of these various studies are indeed quite surprising. This is because women have always been considered more emotional and more flexible in expressing their love. In fact, it is men who fall in love more easily.
British psychologist Neil Lamont told VICE that men fall in love easily because men tend to take risks. This is less common in women, who are very careful and are reluctant to take risks about their life partners.
Moreover, psychologists also agree that this may have its roots in prehistoric times, when men were positioned as the dominant hunters. In ancient times, hunters inevitably had to fight over potential partners as a sign of domination and ownership. Because of this, men are encouraged to quickly find a partner. Well, apparently this habit has carried over into modern times.
Falling in love sooner is no guarantee of a lasting love affair
Ingrid Colins, a psychologist at London Medical Center, England, adds that even if men fall in love sooner, there is no guarantee that their love will last. Ingrid also explained that men are more passionate when they first fall in love, but this doesn't mean that their love is genuine.
Unfortunately, there is no research that has proven whether it is true that men are also the ones to feel bored or lose their love in a relationship.
In the end, how quickly someone falls in love and feels bored depends on many factors. For example, the social and economic background, culture and traditions, as well as their respective conditions. It cannot be determined by gender alone. Therefore, the evidence from this study can only provide a general picture.
