Have you had burns? Maybe almost all of you must have experienced it. For example, when you get a splash from cooking oil while cooking or when you accidentally touch the exhaust of a hot motorbike. You must imagine how the pain was. There is a burn medicine which is claimed to be very effective without using ointments but using tilapia fish skin or what in Indonesia is known as tilapia.

Is it true that tilapia skin can be a burn medicine?

The idea of using fish skin as a burn medicine began with the difficulty of stocking frozen pork skin tissue or tissue from human skin (containing collagen) which is usually used in treating burns. This difficult situation also forced Brazilian researchers to look for other alternatives. So one of the treatments found to treat these wounds is to use tilapia or tilapia fish skin.

Previously, researchers in China have been researching about this and practicing it in mice. The difference is in Brazil, their researchers use it directly on their patients. At the time of the study, 56 patients with second- and third-degree burns were tested using this treatment. The result was unexpected, tilapia fish skin healed burns even faster than ointment treatments.

The method of treating burns using the skin of tilapia, or tilapia, is carried out by a team of doctors at the Dr Jose Frota Institute Burns Unit in Fortaleza, a region in northeastern Brazil. This drug for burns with tilapia is also believed to be the first in the history of health.

This research has begun to be developed by a research team headed by Dr. Odrico Moraes since two years ago, at the Nucleus of Research and Development of Medicines (NPDM) at the Federal University of Ceara (UFC). These researchers found that tilapia fish skin contains moisture, collagen and is more resistant to disease. Even though usually the skin of this fish is often thrown away, after the meat is consumed.

How to treat burns with tilapia skin?

Treatment of burns using tilapia is very easy. The skin of tilapia that has been processed in such a way as to be sterile and safe for use for medical treatment is then applied directly to the affected area and then covered with a bandage. When used, the fish skin does not need to be changed.

After 10 days, the doctor will remove the bandage. The fish's skin has dried up and the burns are claimed to be healed. The pain in burn patients is claimed to be greatly reduced when the tilapia fish skin is attached. So patients will not be dependent on painkillers anymore.

How can tilapia skin treat burns?

Well, you must be wondering why tilapia can be a burn medicine. In fact, tilapia fish skin contains high collagen so it provides longer moisture. This is useful for creating new tissue to replace burned tissue. In addition, this skin is also rich in omega 3 which is an antioxidant. This component can calm the inflammation that occurs so that the patient can feel more comfortable during the healing process. Its use is also safe because this skin is biocompatible with human skin.

Another reason why burn treatment in Brazil has popularized the use of tilapia scales is because of the very large population of this fish. Of course, with so many fish resources, the price of using fish treatment is much cheaper than other methods of treatment.

In addition, skin treatment is more effective because it is enough to use it once and after a week, the fish skin is removed. Obviously with this low price, this method of treatment will be of great help to society. Do you think this method will also be used in Indonesia?
