AST and SGPT are tests performed to find out how well the liver and other organs are functioning. the results of both tests are equally high can be a sign of liver problems that need to be examined further. So, how to reduce high SGOT and SGPT levels?
There are various ways that can help reduce high SGOT and SGPT levels
SGOT and SGPT are enzymes that help the liver digest fat. They are not only present in the liver, but in every cell of the other organs. Even so, SGPT is more commonly found in the liver.
When the liver (or other organs) has a problem, these two enzymes will enter the blood vessels and the levels increase in the body.
Apart from the medications that may be given, here are other things you can do to reduce high AST and ALT levels.
1. Avoid eating fatty foods
In fact, one of the causes of high SGOT and SGPT is due to fatty foods that you eat frequently. Yes, this enzyme is present in the liver and has the main function of breaking down fat in the body. When too much fat enters, over time the liver is unable to process it, resulting in damage to liver cells.
Although fatty foods are not the main reason why liver function is damaged, they also contribute to increasing AST and ALT. Therefore, you should avoid foods that are saturated fat and trans fat. Instead, consume foods that contain lots of fiber, such as vegetables and fruit.
2. Do not drink which can be toxic to the body
Alcohol is the main cause of liver damage which then makes your SGOT and SGPT jump. If indeed you have a habit of drinking alcohol, then from now on you should stop the habit.
The liver is an organ that is responsible for neutralizing and filtering toxins from the blood. Alcoholic drinks are poisonous to the body, so it will be processed in the liver. If you consume too much and often, the liver will no longer be able to process the incoming toxins and eventually there are damaged cells. When that happens, the SGOT and SGPT will start to increase.
3. Stop consuming excessive drugs
Just like alcohol, medicinal substances that enter the body will be processed directly by the liver because they are considered poisonous - even though they can relieve your disease. Some drugs can damage the liver if consumed carelessly and in excess, thus increasing the workload of the liver and ultimately increasing levels of these two enzymes. So, you should consult all the drugs you are going to take with your doctor and obey the rules of taking them.
4. Avoid foods high in sugar
In fact, not only fatty foods can increase fat levels in the body, but also high-calorie foods such as sweet foods. All these sweet foods will be processed into glucose in the body which is usually used as energy.
However, if there are too many piles of glucose, the unused glucose will be stored by the body as body fat reserves. Now, when there is more fat, liver function will be disrupted. So, you should avoid all those sweet foods from now on.
5. Exercise routine
In addition to maintaining a healthy diet, be diligent in exercising to lose weight and maintain an ideal body weight. This is an attempt to get your SGOT and SGPT back to normal.
Exercise should be done every day for 30 minutes. You can start with simple sports first, such as walking or jogging in your home area. That way, the pile of fat in the body is also burned.
