What Drug Floctafenine?

What is floctafenine for?

Floctanine is used for short-term use in the management of acute pain of mild and moderate severity.

How is floctafenine used?

Take this medication by mouth, usually every 6 to 8 hours as needed with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters) or as directed by your doctor. Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking this medicine. To help prevent stomach upset, take this medication with food or after eating.

Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. To reduce the risk of stomach bleeding and other side effects, take this medication at the lowest effective dose for the shortest time possible. Do not increase the dose, use it more frequently, or use it for a longer time than prescribed. Do not take more than 1200 milligrams per day unless directed by your doctor. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor or pharmacist.

If you are using this medication for migraine headaches and the pain doesn't go away, or if it gets worse after the first dose, tell your doctor right away.

If you are taking these medications on a need-only basis (not on a regular schedule), remember that painkillers work best if they are used right away when the first signs of pain occur. If you wait until your symptoms get worse, the medicine may not work very well.

Tell your doctor if your condition persists or gets worse or if you experience new symptoms.

How is floctafenine stored?

This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.

What side effects can be experienced due to floctafenine?

Side effects include:

• indigestion
• CNS effect
• hypersensitivity reactions
• blood disorders
• nephrotoxicity
• hematuria
• edema
• pancreatitis
• toxic epidermal
• alveolitis
• Stevens-Johnson syndrome
• photosensitivity
• pulmonary eosinophilia

Floctafenine Drug Warnings and Cautions

What should be known before using floctafenine?

Before taking floctafenine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it. or aspirin or other NSAIDs (eg, ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain active ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have:

• asthma sensitive to aspirin (history of difficulty breathing with a runny / stuffy nose after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs)
• severe kidney disease
• active stomach disease / intestinal ulcer / bleeding
• severe heart disease (eg, severe heart failure, coronary heart disease, ischemic cardiomyopathy)
• liver disease

Is floctafenine safe for pregnant and lactating women?

We of childbearing age require that the possible benefit of the drug should be preserved: Because floctafenic acid crosses the placental barrier, its use in women is balanced against the possible risks to both the mother and the fetus.

Lactation: It has been shown that floctafenic acid is slightly secreted in breast milk. Therefore, the use of floctafenine in women who are breastfeeding is not recommended.

Floctafenine Drug Interactions

What medicines may interact with floctafenine?

Anti-inflammatory drugs are widely known to bind to serum albumin. This can cause interactions with anticoagulants, sulfonylureas, hypoglycemic agents, sulfonamides, phenytoin, lithium and certain chemotherapy agents such as methotrexate. Therefore, be careful when these drugs are used concurrently.

Floctafenine can cause water retention and therefore may interfere with diuretics in the treatment of hypertension.

Concomitant use with acetylsalicylic acid resulted in a decrease in the peak serum concentration of the anti-inflammatory drug and a slight increase in clearance and reaction times. The clinical significance of these changes is unknown.

In patients receiving steroid therapy at the same time, each reduction in steroid dose should be gradual to avoid complications that might lead to sudden steroid withdrawal.

No interactions with antacids have been observed.

Can food or alcohol interact with floctafenine?

Certain drugs should not be used with meals or when eating certain foods because drug interactions can occur. Consuming alcohol or tobacco with certain drugs can also cause interactions to occur. Discuss your use of drugs with food, alcohol, or tobacco with your health care provider.

What health conditions can interact with floctafenine?

Any other health conditions you have can affect the use of this drug. Always tell your doctor if you have other health problems, especially:

• Kidney illness
• uncontrolled diabetes
• other stomach / intestinal / esophageal problems (eg, heartburn, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease)
• heart disease (eg, congestive heart failure, history of heart attack);
• high blood pressure
• stroke
• swelling of the ankles / feet / hands
• losing weight, lack of water (dehydration);
• blood disorders (for example, anemia)
• bleeding / clotting problems
• asthma
• growths on the nose (nasal polyps)
• autoimmune disorders (eg, lupus, connective tissue disease)

Floctafenine overdose

What should I do in an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or overdose, contact the local emergency services provider (112) or immediately to the nearest hospital emergency department.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you forget a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
