Anyone can get a yeast infection on the skin. However, if you are active in sports and physical activity, your risk may be higher. The two most common types of yeast infection that cause itching are yeast infections ringworm aka ringworm, and Candida yeast infection.

Both types of fungal infections are equally more frequent in areas of the skin that are moist. However, the area of skin that is attacked is usually different. Research shows that the yeast infection caused by Candida can attack the scrotal skin in men, whereas ringworm never occurs in this area. The appearance of the two types of fungal infection is also different.

How to distinguish ringworm itching and Candida yeast infection?

Ringworm fungal infection, aka ringworm

Despite the name ringworm, this infection is not caused by worm aka worms. Ringworm is caused by a group of fungi called dermatophytes. Ringworm usually affects the feet (often called athlete's foot), groin (tinea cruris), scalp (tinea capitis), nails, hands, and feet.

Ringworm causes a red, inflamed rash, sometimes scaly, and is usually a round ring-like shape. The center is usually red, but it can also be a normal skin tone. If it appears on the scalp, ringworm can cause hair loss.

Ringworm can be passed from person to person, or from moldy objects such as damp towels, or from pets such as dogs and cats.

Candida yeast infection

Candida fungi are usually present in the body of all humans, but if they are in excess, they can cause infection. The parts of the body most commonly infected are the vagina, vulva, male genitals, mouth, and areas of warm, moist skin such as the armpits, between the toes, groin, buttocks, under the breasts, and under the nails.

Candida yeast infection in the vagina can cause a burning sensation, vaginal redness, accompanied by a thick white, cheese-like discharge. Candida yeast infection of the mouth looks like thick white patches on the tongue. On the skin, a Candida yeast infection looks like a red, flat rash, with bumpy sides.

What is the most effective remedy for ringworm and Candida fungus?

The treatment for these two types of yeast infection is not much different. You can use antifungal ointments and lotions. Some Candida ringworm and yeast medications are also available over the counter without a prescription and are available under several brands. You can look for ointments that contain clotrimazole, miconazole, or terbinafine.
