Almost all women must have experienced vaginal discharge. Don't worry yet because this is a normal condition. Even so, there remains anxiety whether the vaginal discharge you experience is really normal or not. To find out, see the review below.
Characteristics of normal vaginal discharge
Leucorrhoea is discharge, normally white or yellow, which comes out of the vagina. Most women experience vaginal discharge every day, although some are only experiencing it occasionally.
Although almost all women experience it, the duration, frequency, and amount of vaginal discharge can vary. This is because every woman has different activities and conditions.
This fluid that comes out of the vagina serves to keep the vagina moist and remove dead cells around the vagina. That's why, this is a normal condition.
Usually, the color and texture of the vagina will change with your menstrual cycle. The menstrual cycle generally occurs once every 28 days.
Approaching the menstrual period, you may notice changes in vaginal discharge. In fact, as the day approaches, you can find brown spots or spots on your underwear.
Don't panic yet because it is normal and indicates that you are getting closer to the time of your period.
Here are some of the characteristics of normal vaginal discharge, according to the menstrual cycle:
- Day 1 to 5.This is the time when you menstruate. Even though menstruation, it doesn't mean you don't experience vaginal discharge. You still experience it, but the color of vaginal discharge mixed with menstrual blood, so it looks red.
- Day 6 to 14.After finishing menstruation, vaginal discharge will not be as much as during menstruation. You will also see that the color will turn white or pale yellow again.
- Day 15 to 25. This period is a few days before ovulation occurs. Your vaginal fluids will become thinner and slippery. The color remains consistent between white and pale yellow.
- Day 25 to 28. Your vaginal discharge will begin to decrease and it will not happen too often because it is approaching the time of your period.
Normal vaginal discharge frequency and duration
In general, how often vaginal discharge occurs depends on the body of each woman. There are some women who experience vaginal discharge every day, some don't.
As already mentioned, there is no definite standard for the amount of vaginal discharge and duration because every woman is different.
A vaginal discharge that is still considered normal is a vaginal fluid whose color, texture, and smell do not experience extreme changes, such as suddenly smelling pungent.
Menstrual cycle changes are very likely to occur. As a result, your vaginal discharge can be affected. If your vaginal discharge is anxious and suspicious of certain diseases, do not hesitate to consult a doctor.
Although normal vaginal discharge, unusual changes that occur can indicate a health problem.
According to U.S Department of Health and Human Service or equivalent to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, experiencing vaginal discharge too often can lead to vaginitis.
However, this change in the frequency of vaginal discharge cannot be used as a rule that you really have vaginitis. Vaginitis may beoccurs when accompanied by the following symptoms:
- Discharge accompanied by itching and burning
- Too often vaginal discharge, for example, almost every day
- Odor-smelling vaginal discharge
- Whitish color to green, dark yellow, or gray
- The vagina feels sore
- The skin around the vagina turns red
If you find such signs, immediately see a doctor to find out the cause and how to overcome them.
