What is stress incontinence?
Stress incontinence is a condition where urine is passed out unconsciously due to sudden pressure on the bladder due to activities such as exercise, laughing, coughing and sneezing. Weak lower pelvic muscles are a common cause of stress incontinence. This weakness is usually caused by stretching or breaking of the muscles during childbirth. In some cases, stress incontinence can be caused or aggravated by weakness of the sphincter muscles in the urinary tract. Factors that can make this condition worse are obesity or smoke, and age.
What are the benefits of the TVT installation operation?
The urine that leaves the bladder can be controlled again.
Precautions & warnings
What should I know before undergoing TVT insertion surgery?
The surgical mechanism for transobturator insertion is almost the same as TVT surgery, but the only difference is the placement. Simple treatments that can be done include pelvic exercises, electrical stimulation, incontinence devices and bladderneck bulking. There are other surgical procedures such as Burch colposuspension, needle suspension, and sling procedures.. These types of operations are classified as larger operations than TVT but the results are not more effective.
Process
What should I do before undergoing TVT insertion surgery?
In the preparation stage for surgery, make sure you tell your doctor about your health condition, any medications you are taking, or any allergies you have. The anesthetist will explain the anesthesia procedure and give further instructions. Make sure you follow all the doctor's instructions including the prohibition of eating and drinking before surgery. In general, you are required to fast for six hours before the surgery. However, you may be allowed to drink beverages such as coffee a few hours before the surgery.
How is the operation process for TVT installation?
This operation is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes about 30 minutes. The doctor will make two small incisions. The first incision is in the lower abdomen and the second is in the vaginal area, just below the urethra (urinary tract from the bladder). The doctor will insert a needle with a ribbon through an incision in the urethra into the incision made in the abdomen.
What should I do after undergoing TVT insertion surgery?
After surgery, you are allowed to go home if you can urinate normally the next day or even on the same day. After three to four days after surgery, you may be able to return to work depending on the type of work. However, most women should wait two to four weeks. Avoid excessive physical activity such as lifting something heavy for several weeks. Regular exercise has also been shown to speed up the recovery process. However, avoid exercise in the first week. Before you decide to exercise, ask your doctor for advice. Continue your lower pelvic exercises to reduce the risk of prolapse and prevent incontinence from coming back.
Complications
What complications can occur?
The risks that may occur from TVT surgery are:
injury to the bladder or urethra (perforation)
Postoperative urinary difficulties Bladder injuries and problems urinating after surgery are rare with Transobturator Tape (TOT) surgery.
However, TOT surgery has other risks, including:
pain in the groin after surgery
numbness or weakness in the groin area of the thigh or leg.
There is also a risk of problems caused by the band used in surgery including abrasion of the tissue in the pelvis. All operations carry some risk of infection or other complications which are an unexpected reaction to anesthesia, excessive bleeding or developing a blood clot (deep vein thrombosis, DVT)..
You can reduce your risk of complications by following your doctor's directions before surgery, such as fasting and stopping certain medications.
