In general, a bad diet and lack of physical activity are the two main factors that make the body fat. Genetics and the body's metabolic system also play a role in determining how quickly a person's body fat. However, certain diseases or medical conditions can actually make the body fat without realizing it. Anything?
Various diseases that can make the body fat
1. Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism can make the body fat because the thyroid gland is not functioning properly. The thyroid gland is a small, butterfly-shaped organ located in the lower neck. The hormones produced from these glands help regulate the body's metabolism.
Hypothyroidism causes your metabolism to decrease, so you are prone to fat fast. Other symptoms of hypothyroidism include sensitivity to cold, depression, and even brittle nails and hair.
2.PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or which is Indonesianized to be polycystic ovary syndrome is a problem in the balance of female hormones. PCOS usually causes cysts to form in the ovaries, which results in an imbalance in the levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone in the body.
PCOS can cause irregular menstrual cycles. In addition, PCOS conditions can make you fat due to weight gain or difficulty losing weight. PCOS can also cause fine hair growth and excess acne.
3. Prolactinoma
A prolactinoma is a condition characterized by the growth of a benign (non-cancerous) tumor on the pituitary gland in the brain. As a result, the body produces the hormone prolactin excessively. Although a prolactinoma does not cause death, it can interfere with your vision, causing fertility problems. Other effects include gaining weight.
4. Cushing syndrome
Cushing's syndrome, also known as hypercortisolism, is a disease caused by excessive cortisol. This can cause various disorders in the body system as a whole, such as imbalanced blood sugar levels or a decreased immune response. Not infrequently, Cushing's syndrome can cause weight gain without realizing it, especially in the face, upper back, neck and waist.
5. Depression
Stress and depression can be the causes that make the body fat suddenly. The negative emotional turmoil that results from these two conditions can trigger you to overeat. This is of course dangerous because people who are under stress are usually not aware of how much food they have eaten and cause sudden weight gain.
Food consumed when emotional eating usually those that contain lots of calories and are high in carbohydrates. For example, ice cream, biscuits, chocolate, snacks, french fries, pizza, hamburgers, and others. Not to mention, if you often use food as an escape to release stress, you may be able to eat a large amount more than three times a day. This is what can lead to weight gain, even obesity if it continues.
If you gain weight for no apparent reason, especially if you suspect the symptoms of the diseases mentioned above, you should further consult your doctor to get the right diagnosis and treatment.
