Green coffee (green coffee) and green tea (green tea) has recently been used to aid weight loss. Green coffee is made from unprocessed or unroasted coffee, so the color is still green. Meanwhile, green tea is also minimally processed, it only undergoes a little oxidation process, so the color is still green. But, do you know which one is the best between green coffee and green tea?
Green coffee
Apart from containing caffeine, coffee beans contain a compound known as chlorogenic acid. This compound can act as an antioxidant, but it can also help lower blood pressure and help you lose weight. Chlorogenic acid can increase metabolism so your body will burn fat instead of storing fat. This is the reason why coffee can lose weight. However, chlorogenic compounds can be reduced when roasting. Therefore, drinking regular coffee (not green coffee) has very little effect on weight loss.
Unlike green coffee which comes from unroasted coffee beans, this green coffee certainly has more chlorogenic acid than regular coffee. So, you can use green coffee to lose weight. A study in the journal Gastroenterology Research and Practice in 2011 has also proven that green coffee extract can have benefits in helping you lose weight. However, this evidence is still very small and is not a long-term study. Another study published in Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity Targets and Therapy in 2012 also proved that green coffee can help with weight loss.
Green tea
Green tea contains a lot of antioxidant compounds. One of the powerful antioxidant compounds that green tea has are catechins. This compound is 100 times stronger than vitamin C. Catechins are flavonoid polyphenols that can protect the body from free radicals. In addition, it can also help you lose weight by increasing energy expenditure and speeding up fat burning.
However, catechins appear to be more effective in losing weight with the help of caffeine compounds, a caffeine compound in green tea. A study in the Journal of Nutrition in 2009, proved that participants who were given drinks containing catechins and caffeine lost more weight and belly fat than participants who were only given drinks containing caffeine.
Long-term consumption of green tea extract has also been shown to help you lose weight by 1-1.5 kg for 12 weeks. If the consumption of green coffee extract is combined with regular exercise, the results of weight loss will be greater.
Which is healthier?
Green coffee and green tea, both of which you can use to lose weight. Green coffee or green tea can increase your metabolism, so your body can burn fat faster. However, both also contain caffeine, which can cause anxiety, insomnia, increase your heart rate, make you urinate more frequently, and various other side effects.
Coffee itself contains more caffeine than tea. Coffee contains about 100 mg of caffeine per cup, while tea only contains 14-60 mg of caffeine per cup. When viewed from the caffeine content, of course, green tea is better. In addition, green tea also contains lots of antioxidants. Also, there have been many studies that prove that green tea can help you lose weight.
However, what is even better is if you reduce your calorie intake per day and exercise. Choose foods that contain lots of fiber, such as fruits and vegetables, so that you feel full longer. Also, limit your consumption of fats, especially saturated fats and trans fats. You can get healthy fats from nuts, avocado, canola oil, and olive oil. And, do exercise regularly, at least 150 minutes per week. The combination of all of these can certainly cut your weight even more.
