Most children who are shy are born that way, but some experiences that children have received can also cause children to be shy. An incident may have triggered your child to be shy. So, your child may need help relieving embarrassment.
How to train children not to be shy?
Shy children are usually independent, wise, and empathetic. However, the downside is that shy children often don't like or are afraid to try new things. She usually takes longer to adjust to her new environment, so it may be more difficult to make friends. It's not that he doesn't want to be friends, he wants to be friends, but he finds it difficult to get close to other people. Either because he was afraid or just didn't know how to get started.
For that, you need to teach shy children to be brave in public. Some things you can do to help your child stop being shy are:
1. Build self-confidence
It's best not to tell your child that he is shy, this will only make the child feel less confident and more different from other children. So that it will make children more shy. You only need to supervise the child while he is playing, give him more time to learn about his surroundings. Once he feels comfortable with him, he will be happy to play and not be shy anymore. Give confidence to the child that he can do whatever he wants.
2. Place the child in social situations
Give children the opportunity to always interact with other people, even with people they don't know. This can help relieve embarrassment slowly. For example, teach children to order themselves and pay for their own food while at a restaurant. Or, invite the children to play outside in public parks with other children. The more often the child visits new locations and sees new people, the more confident the child will be and less shy.
3. Show empathy
If you see your child being scared or shy when you meet people, tell him that he shouldn't be afraid. Also, you may want to tell your child that you have also been embarrassed and how you have coped with your own shyness. By showing empathy, you help your child feel understood and accepted, help him to understand how he is feeling, and how he must cope.
4. Help children interact with other people
Some children may not know what to do when they meet people. You may need to show how to greet people, talk to, and be friendly with others. That way, children can imitate your behavior. Encourage children to greet their friends when they are passing by or playing together. Invite his friends to talk to you, so that the child feels comfortable around him.
If your child is successful at speaking in front of other people, you may want to give praise. This made him feel appreciated and felt that what he had done was right. If the child is still quiet in front of people, you may have to discuss this with the child and always invite the child to interact with people so that he gets used to it.
