It means lockdown saved about 3 million more lives, including 470,000 in the UK, 690,000 in France and 630,000 in Italy, the research team wrote in the research published in the journal Nature.

The second study was conducted by scientists in the United States. They estimate that the lockdowns implemented in China, South Korea, Italy, Iran, France and the United States have prevented or delayed transmission of some 530 million cases of COVID-19.

Worried about the economic impact
