For those of you who are doing self-isolation at home, here are some recommendations for vitamins that can be consumed to help the body fight COVID-19.
List of vitamins recommended for COVID-19 patients
In the Guidelines for Management of COVID-19 Edition 3 compiled by a joint Indonesian doctor association, there are several vitamin recommendations that are good for consumption by COVID-19 patients.
The recommendations for these vitamins differ depending on the severity of the patient's symptoms. The similarity is that each COVID-19 patient is recommended to consume vitamin C and vitamin D.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant and free radical scavenger which has anti-inflammatory (inflammatory) properties. In addition, vitamin C also plays an important role in maintaining your immune system.
Meanwhile, vitamin D increases T helper cytokines which are anti-inflammatory and are expected to reduce the inflammatory response to SARS-CoV-2 virus infection.
Vitamin recommendations for asymptomatic patients (OTG)
Vitamin C
- Non-acidic vitamin C 3-4 x 500mg
- 2 x 500mg vitamin C lozenges
- Multivitamin with vitamin C content 1-2 tablets per day
Vitamin D
- Supplement 400-1000 IU daily
- Drugs 1000-5000 IU daily
Asymptomatic COVID-19 patients must self-isolate according to health protocols. The patient will be declared cured or finished isolation after doing self-isolation for 10 days without any symptoms.
For patients who are positive for COVID-19 OTG but have comorbidities (comorbid), it is advisable to continue treatment as directed by the doctor.
For patients who are taking ACE-inhibitor type drugs (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors) and ARB, then consult a lung doctor or a heart doctor.
Vitamin recommendations for patients with mild symptoms of COVID-19
Vitamin C
- Non-acidic vitamin C 3-4 x 500mg
- 2 x 500mg vitamin C lozenges
- Multivitamin with vitamin C content 1-2 tablets per day
- It is recommended that multivitamins that contain vitamins C, B, E, zinc
Vitamin D
- Vitamin D Supplement types 400-1000 IU / day
- Vitamin D types of drugs 1000-5000 IU / day
Azithromycin 1 x 500mg taken for 5 days.
Anti Virus
- Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) 2 x 75mg taken for 5-7 days
- Favipiravir (Avigan) 2 x 600mg taken for 5 days.
In addition to taking vitamins, patients with mild symptoms of COVID-19 can undergo symptomatic therapy, which is to treat every symptom. For example, if you have a cough, take cough medicine.
Patients with mild symptoms are also recommended to carry out self-isolation according to health protocols. The isolation period is 10 days from the onset of symptoms plus 3 days of symptom free.
Patients with mild symptoms who have comorbidities are advised to continue to take medication according to doctor's recommendations.
